The Oceanic Delta 5 eDX is a complete first and second stage regulator set aimed squarely at recreational divers who want more than entry-level gear, without stepping into the complexity or cost of a fully technical setup.

If you are a certified diver looking for a regulator that handles cold or challenging water, gives you real breathing control, and is built from materials that will last, this set deserves a close look.

The First Stage: Why the eDX Design Matters

The eDX first stage is a cold-forged chromed marine brass, over-balanced diaphragm design. That combination matters for a few reasons.

A diaphragm first stage keeps its internal mechanism completely separated from the water around it. Salt, sand, chlorine, and other contaminants never reach the working parts. That is the baseline.

The eDX goes further with a secondary diaphragm that seals the main spring cavity. This is the feature that makes the regulator suitable for ice diving and genuinely contaminated water, not just cold water in general. In those conditions, a standard diaphragm design can still allow moisture or particulates into the spring area. The eDX closes that gap.

There is also a heat exchanger built into the first stage. In cold water, the rapid pressure drop inside a regulator causes the metal to chill quickly, which can lead to freezing and erratic airflow. The heat exchanger helps counteract that by drawing warmth from the surrounding water before it can cause a problem.

Because the internal parts are sealed off from the environment, the eDX also requires less frequent servicing than an exposed piston design. That is a practical benefit if you dive regularly in the sea or in pools.

Port configuration gives you room to grow:

• 4 low-pressure (LP) ports for hoses to your BCD inflator, drysuit, and any additional second stages

The Second Stage: Breathing Feel and Comfort

The Delta 5 second stage is pneumatically balanced, which means the effort it takes to draw a breath stays consistent regardless of your depth or how much air remains in your tank. An unbalanced second stage can feel noticeably harder to breathe from as depth or tank pressure changes. The Delta 5 does not have that problem.

The valve body is all-metal, not plastic. That contributes to consistent performance across a wide range of conditions and temperatures, and it is part of why the second stage holds up in cold water alongside the first.

Two controls give you direct input over how the regulator breathes:

• Dive/pre-dive venturi lever: Set to pre-dive before you enter the water to prevent the regulator from free-flowing on the surface. Switch to dive once you are underwater and the regulator delivers air more freely.
• Dynamic Adjustment Technology (DAT) knob: A proprietary Oceanic control that lets you dial inhalation effort up or down during the dive. If you are exerting yourself, you can open the airflow. If you are resting and want to conserve air, you can reduce it slightly. This is a real, usable control, not a gimmick.

The second stage has a compact 2.5-inch (6.35 cm) front profile, which keeps it from feeling bulky in your mouth. The hose is 30 inches (76.2 cm) long and uses a 3/8-inch thread, with a heat exchanger at the hose connection point to the second stage. This is a second layer of cold-water protection, keeping the air arriving at the second stage from chilling the mechanism from the inside.

The mouthpiece is orthodontic, shaped to follow the natural forward position of the upper jaw. If you have ever finished a dive with a sore jaw from gripping a straight mouthpiece, this design reduces that fatigue noticeably.

Nitrox Compatibility

The Delta 5 eDX is nitrox-ready up to 40% oxygen straight out of the box, with no additional cleaning or modification required. That covers the most common enriched air nitrox mixes used in recreational diving, typically 32% (Nitrox 32) and 36% (Nitrox 36). If you are already nitrox-certified or plan to get there, you will not need to upgrade or service the regulator before using it with those mixes.

Who This Regulator Is For, and Who Should Look Elsewhere

The Delta 5 eDX is a strong match if you dive in cold water, variable conditions, or environments with sediment, salt, or pool chemicals. The environmental sealing is genuine and meaningful in those situations, not just a marketing label.

It also suits divers who want breathing control they can actually adjust mid-dive, and who appreciate a first stage built from quality materials that will hold up over years of regular use.

If you dive exclusively in warm, clear tropical water and never plan to use a drysuit or redundant gear, the environmental sealing and extra port count are features you will pay for but may not need. A simpler piston-based regulator might serve you just as well in that context.

The yoke (also called DIN A-clamp) configuration fits the most common cylinder valve found on rental tanks worldwide. If you dive primarily in Europe or with DIN valves, this specific version of the Delta 5 eDX is not the right fit, as it is not a DIN-threaded first stage.
