The First Stage: MK25 EVO

Here is why that matters. In an unbalanced regulator, the effort required to breathe increases as your tank pressure drops. A balanced piston eliminates that relationship. The intermediate pressure delivered to your second stage stays consistent whether your tank reads 200 bar or 50 bar, so your breathing effort does not change as the dive progresses.

Scubapro takes this further with an air-balanced piston, which compensates for ambient pressure changes as well. The result is that the first stage delivers the same high airflow at depth as it does at the surface.

Cold Water Performance

Port Configuration

The MK25 EVO gives you a well-equipped port layout for building out a full hose configuration:

• 5 low-pressure ports (3/8" threaded, high-flow) on a swiveling turret with 360-degree rotation, covering your second stage, BCD inflator, drysuit, and any other LP accessories.
• 2 high-pressure ports (7/16" threaded), positioned opposite each other so you can route a pressure gauge or transmitter cleanly regardless of your setup.

The swiveling LP turret is a practical detail. It lets you adjust hose routing after assembly without fighting the geometry of a fixed port layout.

The Second Stage: A700

The A700 is the top of Scubapro's second stage line. The full chromed brass construction sets it apart visually and physically from plastic-bodied second stages. It is heavier and more substantial in the hand, and it is built to be serviced and used for a long time.

The A700 uses an air-balanced valve, which keeps inhalation effort low and consistent regardless of depth or tank pressure. This pairs directly with what the MK25 EVO is doing at the first stage: both ends of the system are working to minimize the work of breathing.

Two diver-adjustable controls sit on the second stage body:

• Inhalation resistance knob: lets you tune how easy or firm the breath feels, useful for matching the regulator to your breathing style or to current conditions.
• VIVA switch (Venturi Initiated Vacuum Assist): toggles between a dive position that uses venturi effect to assist airflow during a breath, and a pre-dive position that reduces the chance of free-flow on the surface before you descend.

The A700 also includes a high-flow exhaust valve, which reduces back-pressure on exhalation. In practice, this means exhaling feels as easy as inhaling, which becomes noticeable on longer or more physically demanding dives.

Materials and Build

The chromed brass construction throughout is a deliberate choice for durability and long service life. It is heavier than comparable systems built around composite materials, but it holds up to repeated use and servicing over many years.

Nitrox Compatibility

The MK25 EVO/A700 is nitrox compatible up to 40% oxygen as configured from the factory. If you are already diving enriched air or plan to, this covers the standard recreational nitrox range without any additional preparation needed.

Note that 40% is the stated limit for this configuration. Divers planning to use higher oxygen fractions for technical diving would need to confirm suitability with Scubapro or an authorized service center before doing so.
