What "balanced diaphragm" means for your breathing

The AC5 first stage uses a balanced diaphragm design. Balanced means the mechanism compensates for changes in cylinder pressure as your tank empties, so the effort it takes to draw a breath stays consistent whether your tank is full or nearly spent.

Diaphragm, as opposed to piston, means the internal mechanism is sealed from the water by a flexible membrane. That matters if you dive in cold, silty, or contaminated water, because nothing in the working parts is directly exposed to whatever is in the water around you.

The Zen second stage: built to reduce jaw fatigue

Adjustments you can actually use underwater

Who this regulator suits, and who it does not

The AC5 Zen is a good match if you are a recreational diver who dives regularly and wants a personal regulator rather than renting. The lightweight second stage makes it particularly well suited to divers who log long bottom times or who experience jaw fatigue with heavier mouthpieces.

It travels well. The DIN version especially keeps total weight down, and the compact Zen second stage takes up less bag space than bulkier alternatives.

It is not aimed at technical divers running multiple cylinders or decompression profiles. The single HP port means you cannot run a separate transmitter and a mechanical gauge from the first stage alone, and the overall specification sits squarely in recreational territory.
