The Cressi AC25M Master Cromo is a complete regulator system, first and second stage, designed for divers who want serious performance without stepping into full technical gear.

If you are a recreational diver moving past entry-level equipment, or an experienced diver looking for a cold-water-capable reg with fine-tuning controls, this is a setup worth understanding closely.

The First Stage: AC25 Balanced Piston

The AC25 is Cressi's third-generation balanced piston first stage. That matters because a balanced piston design delivers consistent intermediate pressure regardless of how full or depleted your tank is. You get the same breathing effort at 200 bar as you do at 50 bar, which is one of the things that separates mid-to-upper-tier regulators from basic unbalanced designs.

The first stage is machined from brass with a gun metal-chrome plated matte finish, which gives it both corrosion resistance and a subdued, professional look. It is built in Italy, and the fit and finish reflect that.

Port layout is generous and practical:

• 5 low-pressure (LP) ports with 3/8" UNF threads, four of which sit on a 360-degree rotating turret
• 1 additional co-axial hi-flow LP port on top of the turret, useful for a primary second stage or BC inflator
• 2 high-pressure (HP) ports with 7/16" UNF threads for pressure gauges or transmitters

The rotating turret is a real-world convenience. It lets you route hoses in any direction without fighting the geometry of your configuration, which matters if you run a drysuit inflator, a computer transmitter, or an octopus alongside your primary second stage.

Intermediate pressure is tunable via an external direct IP adjustment system, set with a standard hex key. You do not need to send the regulator to a shop every time you want to tweak breathing feel. That said, if you are not familiar with IP adjustment, leave it to a qualified technician until you are comfortable with the process.

The Second Stage: Master Cromo

The Master Cromo is a pneumatically balanced second stage, meaning it uses downstream air pressure to assist valve opening. The result is a smoother, more responsive breath, particularly at depth where ambient pressure is higher.

Two controls let you adjust breathing feel on the fly:

• Inhalation effort knob – adjusts how easy or firm the breath feels, letting you dial in your preference or compensate for conditions
• Lateral Venturi switch with dive and pre-dive positions – in pre-dive mode it prevents freeflow on the surface; switch to dive before descending for maximum responsiveness

The second stage body is built from techno polymer, a dense engineered plastic that absorbs vibration and reduces breathing noise. The front cover is laser-etched titanium, which keeps weight down and adds durability without the bulk of a full metal housing.

Inside, a patented elliptical diaphragm and low-friction lever handle the mechanics of air delivery. There is no injector (Venturi tube) in the air path, which keeps the breathing mechanism simple and reliable. The adjuster knob has a PVD coating, a hard-wearing surface treatment that resists scratching and wear over years of use.

Maintenance access is handled by a cam-lock fastener, which means the second stage can be opened for servicing without specialized tools. The exhaust deflector is removable, making it easy to clean and inspect.

Cold Water Certification

The AC25M Master Cromo carries EN250/2014 certification, which is the European standard for cold water diving. It is rated for use in water temperatures below 50°F (10°C). An internal heat exchanger in the second stage helps manage the temperature drop that occurs as high-pressure air expands, reducing the risk of freeze-up in cold conditions.

If you dive in temperate or cold seas, lakes, or quarries, this certification is not a marketing detail. It is a meaningful design commitment.
