Genesis Hydra Dry Snorkel: A Full-Dry Snorkel for Comfortable Surface Breathing

The Genesis Hydra Dry Snorkel is a dry-top snorkel built for recreational snorkelers and divers who want to breathe at the surface without constantly clearing water from their tube.

How the dry top works

The defining feature of the Hydra is its dry ball chamber at the top of the tube.

Inside that chamber sits a buoyant ball. When a wave hits the top of the snorkel, or when you submerge your head, the ball rises and seals the tube shut. Water cannot enter. When you surface and the top clears, the ball drops, the tube opens, and you breathe in normally.

You do not have to blast or purge. You just breathe.

The purge valve and water reservoir

No dry top is perfect in every condition. If a small amount of water does find its way in, the Hydra handles it with a deep reservoir below the mouthpiece.

That reservoir catches residual water and keeps it away from your airway. A one-way purge valve at the bottom of the reservoir lets that trapped water drain out with a gentle exhale, without you having to blast hard or tilt your head.

Together, the dry top and the purge valve mean you are almost never breathing around water.

Fit and comfort

The mouthpiece is made from silicone, which is softer and more flexible than older rubber designs. It sits more naturally between your teeth and requires less clenching to hold in place, which matters on a longer snorkel session where jaw fatigue becomes real.

The mouthpiece is also removable and replaceable. If it wears out, or if you share the snorkel and want a fresh piece, you can swap it without replacing the whole snorkel.

The tube itself is contoured, meaning it follows the curve of your head rather than sticking straight out. A corrugated lower section adds flexibility so the tube can angle naturally to your mouth without pulling. The result is a snorkel that sits close to your head and does not create drag as you move through the water.
