Oceanic Pocket Snorkel: A Foldable Backup Snorkel for Scuba Divers

The Oceanic Pocket Snorkel is not your primary snorkel. It is a compact, foldable backup designed to live in your BCD pocket until you need it.

If you are a certified recreational diver who wants a snorkel on hand for surface swims without the bulk of a full-size tube clipped to your mask all dive, this is the product built for that exact situation.

Why Carry a Pocket Snorkel at All

Many recreational divers skip the snorkel entirely because a full-size snorkel catches current, creates drag, and feels awkward dangling from your mask during a dive.

The trade-off is that you then have nothing to breathe through when you are on the surface, waiting for the boat or conserving your tank on a long surface swim back to shore.

The Oceanic Pocket Snorkel solves that. You leave it folded in your BCD pocket during the dive. When you surface and need it, you pull it out, clip it on, and breathe.

How It Folds and Stores

Folded down, the Pocket Snorkel measures 7" x 4" x 2.5" (17.8 x 10.2 x 6.4 cm). That is small enough to fit in a standard BCD pocket without crowding your SMB or other surface signaling gear.

It attaches to your mask strap using Oceanic's patented snorkel lock keeper, which clips on and releases without tools or fumbling.

Dry Top and Purge Valve

Despite being a compact backup, the Pocket Snorkel does not cut corners on function. It uses a dry top deflector, which deflects surface chop and spray away from the tube opening so water does not pour down while you breathe.

Note that the specs list it as a semi-dry top, not a fully sealed dry-top snorkel. In calm to moderate surface conditions it performs well, but in heavy chop you may still get occasional splash entry.

Any water that does enter clears through an oversized one-way purge valve at the bottom of the tube. A short exhale pushes it out without the sharp blast of effort a smaller valve requires.

Tube and Mouthpiece

The tube is contoured and includes a corrugated lower section. The corrugation is what allows the snorkel to fold without kinking, and it also lets the mouthpiece drop naturally to a comfortable angle when you bite down, rather than holding a rigid position.

The mouthpiece is 100% silicone rubber, which sits softer against your teeth and jaw than harder plastics during a long surface swim. It is also removable and replaceable, so if it wears or you want a different fit over time, you are not replacing the whole snorkel.

Who This Is Not For

If you want a snorkel for dedicated snorkeling trips, this is not the right choice. A full-size snorkel with a larger bore tube will move more air with less effort, which matters when you are spending an hour face-down at the surface.

Equally, if you are looking for a primary scuba snorkel to keep mounted on your mask throughout every dive, the bulk savings of this design matter less and you would be better served by a standard-size dry-top snorkel.
