Information to Know about liveaboard diving in Indonesia

  • Diving in Indonesia can pretty much happen all year round. However, do not forget that Indonesia is a huge country and weather that affects one side of the country may not affect other parts of the country. So make sure that before you plan your liveaboard trip, make sure to check the weather conditions within the area that you choose.
  • Rainy Season is between the months of November through to March.
  • Dry Season is between the months of April through to October.
  • Bali has its very own weather systems and is a lot less affected by monsoon.
  • Visibility is not great under the surface during rainy season due to surface conditions. However, it is important to remember that if you’re looking to dive with manta rays in Komodo, then monsoon season is the time to do it.
  • Not all liveaboards run through monsoon season, however some dive safaris that take place around Raja Ampat and Komdo tend to run all year round.
  • The temperature in Indonesia varies between 25C/77F to 35C/95F; this changes depending on the season and location.
  • Water temperature averages between 26C/79F to30C/86F throughout the year. However locations such as the Komodo Islands can drop to a chilly 16C/61F.
  • Depending on what location you choose for your liveaboard and what the season is, visibility ranges from 10m to 60m.
  • There are over 250 airports in Indonesia, of which 20 of them are international; meaning that travelling around the islands of Indonesia is not difficult. There are three main airports used in Indonesia, Sockarno-Hatta International Airport is by far the most common one found in the capital of Jakarta.
