Seac Warm Dry Suit (Men's): A 4mm Neoprene Drysuit for Cold-Water Recreational Diving

The Seac Warm Dry Suit is a neoprene drysuit built for men who dive in cold water and want to stay genuinely dry, not just insulated.

If you are a certified recreational diver moving away from a wetsuit because the water is too cold, or you already own a drysuit and are looking at this one as a replacement, this description is written for you.

What Makes a Drysuit Different

Unlike a wetsuit, which lets a thin layer of water in and relies on your body heat to warm it, a drysuit seals completely. The air trapped inside is your insulation. You inflate and deflate that air layer as you descend and ascend to manage both warmth and buoyancy. That changes how you dive, and it means this suit needs to be properly fitted and sealed at every opening.

The Shell and Construction

The outer surface uses a poly PK and Powertex coating, which is a tough, abrasion-resistant finish designed to hold up against boat ladders, rocky entries, and general wear. Underneath, the suit is lined with nylon, which matters more than it sounds: nylon lining lets you slide the suit on and off without wrestling it, especially when your skin is damp.

The core material is 4mm neoprene. That thickness gives you meaningful thermal mass on its own, before you factor in the undergarments you wear beneath it. In practice, 4mm neoprene is a reasonable choice for cool to cold water, and the drysuit seal means you are not relying on the neoprene alone to keep you warm.

Seams are externally blind-stitched and internally taped with neoprene. Blind stitching means the needle never passes all the way through the material, so there is no direct path for water to travel along the thread. The internal tape backs that up. Together, these two construction methods are standard practice for a watertight neoprene suit.

Entry and Sealing

Entry is through a rear-entry metal BDM zipper with a protective flap over it. A metal BDM zipper is a dry zipper, meaning it compresses a rubber seal as it closes rather than just interlocking teeth. It requires a buddy or a dive center assistant to zip you in, which is normal for back-entry drysuits. The protective flap sits over the closed zipper to guard it from snags and reduce wear.

The neck seal is Glide-Skin neoprene, a smooth, compressed neoprene surface that forms a close seal against your skin. It is softer than latex and easier to pull over your head, though it requires care not to tear it with fingernails or sharp edges. Wrist closures use Aquastop smooth skin, the same type of material, giving you a flexible but water-resistant seal at both cuffs.

Buoyancy Control Valves

The suit comes with two valves already fitted, which is what you need to dive it as a drysuit:

• Chest inflation valve connects to your regulator's low-pressure port via the included 3/8-inch threaded QD hose. You add air on the way down to counteract suit squeeze and maintain thermal comfort.
• Left-arm exhaust valve is adjustable, meaning you can set the cracking pressure to control how freely air vents as you ascend. Raising your left arm on the way up helps air migrate to the valve and vent automatically.

If you have not dived a drysuit before, these valves are the main thing that requires practice. Most training agencies offer a drysuit specialty course, and it is worth completing one before your first open-water dive in this suit.

Boots, Hood, and Accessories

The attached boots are semi-rigid, meaning they have a firmer sole than a soft neoprene sock boot but are not a hard plastic shell. They are designed to turn inside out for drying after a dive, which helps prevent the interior from staying damp and developing odor over time.

The suit includes a separate hood. It is not attached to the collar, so you pull it on independently and tuck it under the neck seal. This is a common arrangement for neoprene drysuits and works well, though the seal between hood and collar is something to check carefully before each dive.

Integrated suspenders hold the suit up at the shoulders when the top half is peeled down between dives or during surface intervals.

Storage and Pockets

There is one thigh pocket on the left leg, made from 1000D Cordura, which is a heavy-duty woven fabric commonly used in gear that takes hard use. The pocket is expandable and closes with a hook-and-loop flap. It is large enough to carry a small slate, a surface marker buoy, or a few accessories.

Reinforced panels cover the shoulders, elbows, knees, and lower back, the areas most likely to contact surfaces during entries, exits, and boat dives.

The suit ships in a textile storage bag. Storing a drysuit loosely in a bag rather than folded tightly is the right approach for preserving the seals and zipper over time.

Fit and Sizing

The Seac Warm Dry Suit is available in multiple men's sizes. Fit matters more in a drysuit than in almost any other piece of dive equipment. Too loose and you will have excess air migrating unpredictably; too tight and you restrict circulation and make the suit uncomfortable to wear. Check Seac's sizing chart carefully against your height, chest, and waist measurements before ordering.

Who This Suit Is and Is Not For

This suit suits a recreational diver moving into cold-water diving who wants a complete, ready-to-dive package. The included hose, hood, bag, and suspenders mean you are not sourcing accessories separately.

It is not designed for technical diving. Technical divers typically require a more precisely fitted suit with redundant sealing options, and they often prefer a separate dry hood or specific valve configurations that this suit does not address.

If you dive in genuinely warm water and have no plans to go below around 20 degrees Celsius regularly, a well-chosen wetsuit is a simpler and less expensive path. But if cold water is where you dive, or where you want to dive, the Seac Warm Dry Suit is a solidly constructed, fully equipped entry into drysuit diving.
