Scubapro 7.5mm Novascotia Men's Semi-Dry Suit: Cold-Water Protection Without a Full Drysuit

The Scubapro Novascotia is a semi-dry suit, which puts it in a category that sits between a standard wetsuit and a neoprene drysuit. It lets in a small amount of water but is built to trap and warm it quickly, then seal it in so very little new cold water can flush through.

If you dive regularly in cold to temperate water, roughly 45°F to 54°F (7°C to 12°C), and you want significantly more thermal protection than a standard wetsuit without the cost and maintenance of a full drysuit, the Novascotia is worth a serious look.

What Makes It a Semi-Dry, Not Just a Thick Wetsuit

The difference comes down to how well the suit seals at its openings. A thick wetsuit relies mainly on neoprene to slow heat loss. The Novascotia goes further by using a rear YKK Aquaseal Vislon dry zipper across the shoulders, combined with zippered ankle and wrist closures with KA brass sliders, and a fold-under neck seal.

Together, these seals are designed to minimize the flushing effect, the constant exchange of cold water in and out of the suit that drains body heat on longer or repeated dives. You still have a thin film of water against your skin, but it is your water, warmed by your body, and it stays there.

The Neoprene and How It Is Built

The suit is made from 100% Everflex neoprene using an X-Foam formulation. Everflex is Scubapro's name for a neoprene compound engineered to stretch more freely than standard neoprene, which matters on a suit this thick.

At 7.5mm in the core and 6.5mm in the areas that need more movement, you get the insulation where it counts most without the suit fighting you when you kick or reach.

The seam construction is glued and blind-stitched, with internal stress discs placed at stitch intersections. Blind-stitching means the needle never passes all the way through the neoprene, so there is no needle hole for water to enter. The stress discs reinforce the points where seams cross, which are the spots most likely to fail over time.

Scubapro also uses a Pure Design Concept approach, meaning fewer panels and seams overall. Fewer seams means fewer potential leak points and fewer restrictions on how the suit moves with your body.

Keeping You Warm Inside

The interior lining in the arms, legs, and shoulder areas is a plush material designed to trap warmth and to make the suit easier to pull on and off. This kind of lining also adds a perceptible layer of insulation on its own, and it means the suit does not cling to your skin the way bare neoprene can.

The attached hood is included and connects directly to the suit, which removes the gap at the back of your neck that a separate hood can leave. Cold water at the neck is one of the fastest ways to lose body heat, so an integrated hood makes a real difference on cold-water dives.

Construction and Environmental Notes

The suit is assembled with Aqua glue, a solvent-free adhesive that Scubapro describes as eco-friendly. It is CE certified as a Class A dive suit, which is a European safety and performance standard for diving equipment.

Who This Suit Is Not For

If you dive primarily in warm tropical water, the Novascotia is far more suit than you need and will be uncomfortably hot. It is also not a drysuit. If you are regularly diving below 45°F (7°C) or doing extended bottom times in very cold water, a drysuit will protect you better. The Novascotia keeps water intrusion low but does not eliminate it the way a true drysuit does.

It is also a men's cut, sized and shaped accordingly. Women should look at the dedicated women's version.

Fit and Sizing

The suit is available in multiple sizes and comes in black. Because semi-dry performance depends heavily on how well the suit seals at the wrists, ankles, and neck, fit matters more here than with a standard wetsuit.
