What It Is Made Of

The blade is constructed from Monprene, a thermoplastic rubber compound that Scubapro uses across its Go Sport fin line. The Gorilla version uses a higher-grade formulation than the standard Go Sport, which is what produces the increased stiffness.

Monprene is durable, resistant to the wear that comes with regular heavy use, and holds its shape well over time. That matters if you are putting these fins through repetitive professional or technical dives rather than occasional leisure trips.

The Blade: Why Stiffness Is the Point

A stiffer blade transfers more of your leg power directly into forward movement. With a softer fin, some of that energy is absorbed by the blade flexing. The Gorilla is designed to minimize that energy loss.

The blade sits at a 25-degree pre-angle, meaning it is not flat relative to the foot pocket. It is already angled downward to match the natural position of your foot during a flutter kick. This reduces the correction your ankle has to make on every stroke, which adds up to less fatigue over a long dive.

Running down the center of the blade is a Central Power Panel, a raised longitudinal ridge that resists the blade twisting or collapsing sideways under load. On either side of that, integrated Power Bars prevent the blade from over-flexing at the tips. Together, these structural elements keep the blade tracking cleanly through the water and maintain a consistent angle of attack on each kick.

The practical result is a fin that rewards a strong, deliberate kick with real forward drive, and does not reward a sloppy or rushed stroke.

Fit and Adjustability

The Gorilla uses an open-heel "Boot-Fit" design, meaning it is worn over a dive boot rather than barefoot. This is standard for cold-water and professional diving, where a 3mm to 7mm boot is typically already part of the kit.

The strap is a heavy-duty bungee rather than a rigid buckle strap. Bungee straps are a practical choice for divers who don and doff gear frequently or in rough conditions, because they stretch over the heel quickly and hold tension without needing to be buckled. The design includes micro-adjustment capability, so you can dial in the fit across different boot thicknesses.

The heel area also includes Black Heel Grips and Skegs on the underside. These are contact points designed to prevent the fin from sliding when you are walking on a boat deck or rocky entry point, which is a real consideration for shore dives and working dives.

Who This Fin Is Built For

The Gorilla is a good match if you fall into one of these situations:

Who Should Look Elsewhere

If you are a newer diver still developing your kick technique, a very stiff blade can work against you. Without a consistent, controlled stroke, a stiffer fin can cause calf cramps and does not deliver the propulsion advantage it promises.

If you dive primarily in warm, calm water without boots, an open-heel fin is also not the natural choice. A full-foot fin would be simpler and lighter for that context.
