What "Yulex" actually means for you

Standard wetsuits are made from neoprene, which is derived from limestone or petroleum. Yulex Dive, the material in this suit, comes from natural rubber extracted from FSC-certified rubber tree farms. That certification means the farms meet independently verified standards for responsible land management.

The environmental thinking runs through the whole suit. The interior and exterior lining is made from recycled plastic bottles (45 per suit, according to Scubapro). The seams are glued with a solvent-free, water-based adhesive rather than the chemical-heavy solvents typically used in wetsuit construction. The packaging is recyclable paper rather than plastic.

Scubapro states this is the first time Yulex Dive material has been brought to the diving market, so there is no long track record to compare it against the way there is with established neoprene lines.

The practical question is whether plant-based rubber performs like neoprene. Scubapro's claim is that it does, and that it resists water compression at depth the way good neoprene does. Compression resistance matters because a wetsuit that compresses thin under pressure loses its insulating air pockets and leaves you colder the deeper you go.

Temperature range and thermal protection

This suit carries a CE Class B certification for water temperatures between 50°F and 64.5°F (10°C to 18°C). That range covers temperate and cool recreational diving: think the Pacific coast of North America, the British Isles, the Mediterranean in shoulder seasons, or similar environments.

The 5/4mm thickness means the torso panels are 5mm thick for core warmth, while the arm and leg panels are 4mm to preserve mobility. Multi-thickness paneling like this is a considered trade-off: your core stays well insulated where heat loss matters most, and your limbs stay flexible enough to swim and manage equipment without fighting the suit.

An additional Diamond Span lining in the suit adds two layers of insulation: a plush inner layer for heat retention and a stretchy outer layer that helps water drain rather than pool. Both effects contribute to keeping you warmer between entries and during the dive.

If you regularly dive in water warmer than the upper end of that range, this suit will likely be too warm. A 3mm suit would serve you better in tropical or warm-temperate conditions.

Fit and freedom of movement

The Everflex Yulex uses what Scubapro calls a "Pure Design Concept," which means the suit is cut with fewer seams and panels than a conventional wetsuit. Every seam is a potential restriction point. Reducing their number generally translates to a cleaner fit and less bunching at joints when you move.

This matters most when you are kicking, reaching for equipment, or adjusting your buoyancy underwater. A suit that pulls across the shoulders or binds at the knees is fatiguing over a full dive.

Getting in and out is addressed through several design choices:

• Diagonal rear YKK zipper with a KA brass slider and pull-tab leash for the main entry and exit.
• Zippered ankles and wrists with YKK KA brass sliders, so you can open the cuffs to slide the suit on and off without wrestling with tight rubber.
• Internal cuff seals that maintain a water-tight barrier even when the ankle zippers are present.
• Adjustable collar with a small zipper so you can loosen the neck when you surface without unzipping the whole suit.

The brass sliders on the YKK zippers are worth noting. Brass resists corrosion better than standard metal hardware, which extends zipper life in saltwater use.

Seam construction

Seams determine both durability and how much water sneaks in along the joins. The Everflex Yulex uses:

• Double blind-stitched outer seams, glued with solvent-free Aqua adhesive for a watertight bond that holds under repeated stress.
• Single blind-stitched inner seams that sit flat against your skin without the raised ridge that can chafe over a long dive.

Blind stitching means the needle does not pass all the way through the material, so there is no hole to let water through. It is the same construction used in quality neoprene suits, and it is appropriate for the temperature range this suit targets.

Durability details

Two areas of a wetsuit wear out faster than the rest: the shoulders (from tank straps and BCD harnesses) and the knees (from kneeling on boats, entries, and contact with reef or rock). The Everflex Yulex addresses both with abrasion-resistant pads on the shoulders and knees.

The compression-molded zipper flap along the spine does two things. It reduces water entry through the back zipper channel, and it adds a layer of padding between the zipper hardware and your spine, which is a comfort detail that matters on longer dives when a tank is pressing down on your back.

Instrument mounting

Both arms have I-Safe Straps, which are non-slip bands designed to hold a wrist-mounted dive computer or gauge securely in place. If you have had a computer spin around your wrist mid-dive, you will appreciate this. It is a small detail but a practical one.

Who this suit is not for

If you dive exclusively in warm tropical water, the thermal rating puts this suit outside your range.

If the plant-based material story does not matter to you and you simply want the most proven wetsuit in this thickness category, there are longer-established neoprene options to compare. The Yulex Dive material is relatively new to diving specifically, even if natural rubber has a long history in other applications.

This suit is also a women's-specific cut. If you need a men's or unisex option, this is not it.
