It is not a travel-light wing system, and it is not aimed at technical divers. It is a solid, conventional jacket BCD built to last, at a straightforward spec level that suits most open-water and recreational diving conditions.

What "Jacket Style" Means for You

A jacket-style BCD (buoyancy compensator device) wraps air bladder material around your sides and back, so when you inflate it, buoyancy is distributed around your torso rather than just behind you.

For recreational diving, this tends to feel natural and stable. You float upright at the surface without much effort, which is reassuring when you are new to the water or when conditions are choppy.

The trade-off compared to a back-inflate or wing design is that some divers find a fully inflated jacket pushes them forward slightly at depth. At recreational depths and with good buoyancy skills, most divers never find this a real problem.

Construction and Durability

The Oceanpro is built from two different nylon weights, each placed where it makes sense.

• Shoulder and pocket panels: 1600 denier ballistic nylon on the exterior abrasion points. These are the areas that take the most punishment from tank straps, boat decks, and rocky entries.

Both materials are described as fadeless, meaning the color is built into the fiber rather than dyed on the surface. That matters less for performance and more for longevity of appearance after years of sun and salt exposure.

This is genuinely tough construction for a recreational BCD at this level. It is not a lightweight travel jacket, but it is one that should hold up to regular use over many seasons.

Inflation and Dump Controls

The Oceanpro uses Oceanic's Alliance Integrated Inflator, mounted on the left shoulder hose in the standard position.

It handles both inflation and exhaust from one unit. Pressing the inflate button gives you either a precise trickle or a full burst depending on how hard you press, which helps with fine buoyancy adjustments as well as larger changes.

The exhaust valve on the inflator is sized to vent air faster than the power inflator can push it in. That matters on ascent, when you need to dump air quickly to avoid rising too fast. The BCD also has two overpressure and pull-dump valves elsewhere on the bladder, giving you additional exhaust points depending on your body position in the water.

The inflator also has a cable-activated pull dump, so you can vent air by pulling the corrugated hose upward without pressing any buttons.

Fit and Adjustment

The Oceanpro is designed to fit a wide range of body shapes, with several points of adjustment built in.

• Cummerbund: The elastic waistband adjusts up to 8 inches (20.3 cm) and can be swapped out for a different size if needed.
• Shoulder straps: Torso-adjustable, so you can dial in the vertical fit, not just the width.
• Waist strap and shoulder straps: Both use squeeze-style quick-release buckles, which are easy to operate with gloves on and let you get in and out of the BCD quickly on the boat.

The backpack section is padded for comfort both on the surface and in the water, and it includes a molded tank cradle with an anti-slip pad and a single cam-lock cylinder band to hold your tank securely.

Lift Capacity

The Oceanpro's lift capacity ranges from 20 lbs (9.1 kg) in the smallest size up to 48 lbs (21.8 kg) in the largest. The right amount of lift for you depends on your size, your exposure suit (a thick wetsuit or drysuit requires more lift to compensate for the suit's own buoyancy), and the weight of your tank and other gear.

For most recreational divers in a wetsuit diving a standard aluminum tank, the mid-range sizes will provide more than enough lift. If you dive a drysuit or heavy steel tanks regularly, check that the size you are ordering gives you adequate capacity for your full kit.

Pockets and D-Rings

The Oceanpro has two large pockets with hook-and-loop (velcro-style) closures. These are genuinely useful for carrying a surface marker buoy (SMB), a small light, a dive slate, or a snorkel.

For attachment points, the BCD comes with eight plastic D-rings. These are not stainless steel, which is worth noting if you plan to clip off heavy items or prefer the added security of metal rings. For most recreational accessories, the plastic rings are adequate.

Weight Integration

The Oceanpro is not weight-integrated as standard. It ships without weight pockets.

There are two ways this plays out. If you choose not to add them, the spaces where the pockets would sit become additional storage pockets instead. If you want integrated weights later, Oceanic's QLR (Quick Lock and Release) weight pockets are available separately (SKU: OCNWPQLR4) and can be added at any time.

The QLR system uses a positive-lock mechanism that keeps the pouches in place throughout the dive and does not allow them to shift and affect your trim. Releasing them intentionally is straightforward, which matters in an emergency situation when a diver needs to drop weight quickly.

The maximum weight capacity for the integrated pockets is 20 lbs (9 kg). If you need to carry more lead than that, you will still need a weight belt for the remainder.
