Why buy from Amazon?

Amazon has a documented Prime delivery program that covers millions of items, and that is the most concrete order-related support behind buying here.

Worth knowing

Some customers report slower replies or needing more follow-up than expected when they asked for help after ordering. If an order needs post-purchase support, that part of the experience is not always smooth.

Some customers also report delivery problems after ordering. That keeps follow-up and delivery as the areas to watch if you place the order here.

Quick Facts About Mares X-Wing Pro Freediving Fins

  • Long-bladed freediving fins built for intermediate to serious freedivers and spearfishers who want a more rigid, responsive kick.
  • The technopolymer blade measures 71.3 cm long and 19 cm wide, giving you a large propulsive surface with each stroke.
  • Blade angle sits at 30 degrees relative to the foot pocket, positioning your foot naturally and putting more of each kick into forward drive.
  • A V-tip at the end of the blade reduces lateral wobble, keeping your kick tracking straight on descent and ascent.
  • The blades are interchangeable, so you can swap them out as your technique develops or conditions change.
  • The X-Wing foot pocket works with or without neoprene socks, making fit adjustable across different water temperatures and seasons.
  • A good match for freedivers and spearfishers ready to move past entry-level gear and into a stiffer, higher-performance blade.

Mares X-Wing Pro Freediving Fins: Long-Blade Freediving Fins Built for Performance

The Mares X-Wing Pro Freediving Fins are purpose-built long-blade fins for freedivers who want serious propulsion and precise control on every descent.

If you are moving past entry-level freediving and looking for a fin that responds to your technique rather than fighting it, the X-Wing Pro is worth a close look.

What the Blade Actually Does for You

The blade is made from technopolymer, a rigid plastic-composite material that sits in a different category from the soft rubber blades on beginner fins.

Technopolymer is stiffer than elastomer, which means it stores energy as it flexes and releases it as forward drive. The result is a more efficient kick cycle: fewer strokes to cover the same depth, and less oxygen burned doing it.

At 713 mm long and 190 mm wide, this is a full-length performance blade. That size generates real thrust, but it also means the fin rewards good technique. If your kick is still developing, a blade this stiff can work against you and tire your legs faster than a softer fin would.

The blade sits at a 30-degree angle relative to the foot pocket. That geometry is designed to align with the natural position of your foot and ankle during a flutter kick, so the blade works with your body rather than forcing your ankle into an awkward angle.

V-Tip Design and Directional Stability

The tip of the blade is shaped into a V rather than a flat edge.

This matters more than it sounds. A flat-tipped long blade can slip sideways during the kick cycle, bleeding energy into lateral movement instead of forward drive. The V-tip resists that sideways slip, keeping each stroke directed cleanly behind you.

For spearfishing in particular, where you need to hold a precise line while approaching quarry, that directional stability makes a real difference.

The X-Wing Foot Pocket

The foot pocket is Mares' own X-Wing design, and it is full-foot, meaning there is no open heel or strap. Your foot slides in and the pocket holds it securely.

The pocket is designed to work with or without neoprene socks. In colder water, you will likely dive in 3 mm or 5 mm socks, and the fit accommodates that without needing a separate size. In warmer conditions, barefoot or thin-sock diving is equally comfortable.

A good foot pocket does more than keep the fin on your foot. It transmits the force from your leg through your foot and into the blade cleanly. A poor fit wastes energy as flex and movement inside the pocket. The X-Wing pocket is performance-engineered for that power transfer, so sizing correctly matters: too loose and you lose drive, too tight and circulation suffers on long dives.

Interchangeable Blade System

The X-Wing Pro uses an interchangeable blade construction. The blade detaches from the foot pocket, which means you are not locked into a single stiffness or material for the life of the fin.

This is genuinely useful as your freediving develops. You can swap to a different blade if your technique improves and you want more stiffness, or if you want to experiment with a different material without replacing the entire fin.

Who This Fin Is For, and Who It Is Not

The X-Wing Pro suits intermediate to experienced freedivers who have consistent kick technique and want a responsive, efficient fin for depth work or spearfishing.

It is also a reasonable choice for a committed beginner who is training seriously and wants to grow into a performance fin rather than upgrade in a year.

It is not the right starting point if you are brand new to freediving and still building your kick. A stiff technopolymer blade punishes poor technique by overloading the hip flexors and calves. A softer blade will teach you better and feel more forgiving while your body adapts to the movement.

It is also not a scuba fin. The long blade and full-foot pocket are designed entirely around the slow, powerful flutter kick of freediving. They are awkward and impractical for scuba diving.
