Kuman KW30 Waterproof Pinpointer Metal Detector with Holster

The Kuman KW30 is a pinpointer metal detector, the probe-shaped handheld you reach for after a full-size detector has told you something metal is buried somewhere in a rough patch of ground. Its whole job is to turn that patch into a spot, so you dig one small hole instead of several. Kuman lists it for treasure hunting, coin detecting, jewelry finding and gold detecting, on sand, lawn, soil, indoors and outdoors.

Who this suits

This is a second tool, not a first one. If you already sweep a beach or a park with a full detector and lose time guessing where inside the signal the target actually sits, a pinpointer pays for itself in holes you did not need to dig.

Kuman lists coins, silver, jewelry and gold as the detectable materials, and describes the probe as set up for small targets. That is coin shooting and beachcombing, not deep relic work.

Skip it if you do not own a full-size detector. A pinpointer has no wide sweep coil and no target readout, so on its own it makes you crawl a beach inch by inch.

Two ways it searches

The KW30 lists two detection modes: 360 degree side-scan and pinpoint tip detection. Side-scan reads metal along the length of the probe body, which is what you want when you are stirring the loose soil you have already pulled out of a hole. Tip detection uses only the end of the probe, for the last couple of inches when you are closing in on the thing.

The detection field is listed as adjustable for precise pinpointing, and the target profile as small targets. In practice that is the difference between knowing the ring is in this handful of sand and knowing it is somewhere in this hole.

Alerts and sensitivity

It signals a find three ways at once: audio, vibration and a buzzer, with LED light indicators alongside. On a windy beach the audio is the first thing you lose and the vibration is not, which is the practical reason to want more than one alert channel.

There are three sensitivity levels, each with its own LED indicator so you can see which one you are on. Turn it up for smaller or deeper targets, turn it down when mineralized ground or nearby scrap starts giving you constant false hits.

Tuning is automatic and the whole thing is one-touch operation, so there is nothing to set up before you start.

Size, and how wet it can get

The probe measures 215.5 x 41.5 x 43.52 mm, so about 8.5 inches long and narrow enough to push into a dug hole without widening it. That is one-hand territory.

Water resistance is the part to be careful about. The listing states it only as water resistant and names underwater among the compatible surfaces, but it gives no depth figure and no IP rating anywhere. Treat that as splashes, wet sand and a rinse under a tap. If you want to hold it under and search there, ask the seller for a depth rating first, because this listing does not carry one.

What actually comes with it

The listed accessories are a holster and a waterproof case. The holster keeps the probe on your belt between finds. The case is for carrying and storage, and it does not change what the probe itself can survive. Nothing else is listed, so if you need a battery, a tether or a printed manual, assume you are sourcing them yourself unless the seller's page says otherwise.

The KW30 is a plain pinpointer that does the one job a pinpointer has: three sensitivity levels, two scan modes, three alert channels, automatic tuning, one button. It is not a primary detector and it is not dive equipment. Buy it as the second tool in the bag, and settle the water question with the seller before you work anywhere wetter than damp sand.
