Underwater Capability: What You Actually Get

Out of the box, the X5 is waterproof to 49 feet (15 meters) without any case. That covers most recreational diving depth ranges for single-lens (non-360) video.

• Single-lens mode, no case: Shoot standard wide-angle 4K60fps video down to 49 feet. No stitching required, so the footage works fine without the dive case.
• 360-degree mode, no case: Technically possible at the surface and shallow depths, but light refraction and stitching artifacts become a real problem underwater. Insta360 explicitly recommends against it.

Image Quality: Where the X5 Stands Out

The top 360-degree resolution is 8K (7680x3840) at 30fps, achieved through supersampling from 11K.
