Genesis Icon Mask: A Low-Volume Recreational Dive Mask Built for a Close, Secure Fit

The Genesis Icon Mask is a dual-lens, low-volume scuba mask aimed at recreational divers who have struggled to find a mask that seals well on their face.

If you have tried several masks and still dealt with leaking, pressure on the bridge of your nose, or a mask that sits too far from your eyes, the Icon is worth a careful look.

Low Volume and What That Means for You

A low-volume mask sits close to your face, leaving less air space between the lenses and your eyes.

That matters for two practical reasons. First, if water gets in, you have less volume to clear. You blow less air through your nose to push it out. Second, sitting close to your eyes gives you a wider, more natural field of vision than a bulkier mask would.

The Icon is designed with a medium-width skirt, which is the soft silicone rim that seals against your face. Narrower than many masks on the market, it can fit face shapes that wider-skirted masks miss, particularly around the nose and cheekbones.

The Lenses

The Icon runs two teardrop-shaped tempered glass lenses, one on each side of the nose pocket.

Tempered glass is standard on any serious dive mask. It is far more resistant to pressure and impact than ordinary glass, and if it does break, it crumbles rather than shatters into sharp shards.

The teardrop shape extends the lens downward, giving you noticeably more vertical vision than a standard rectangular lens. You will see your gauges, your computer, and the reef below without tilting your head as far.

The Skirt and Seal

The skirt is 100% silicone, double feather-edged, and textured rather than the smooth polished finish you see on most masks.

A feather edge means the rim tapers to a very thin, flexible lip where it meets your skin. That thin edge conforms more readily to the contours of your face and is less likely to leave a gap where water can creep in.

The textured surface is a minor but real comfort detail. It reduces the slightly sticky, suction-cup feel that some smooth silicone skirts create during a long dive.

Strap and Buckles

The mask uses a wide split strap, meaning the single strap divides into two bands where it meets the back of your head. That distributes pressure more evenly and reduces the chance of it sliding up or down during a dive.

The quick-disconnect buckles let you pull the strap free from the frame without tools and without wrestling with it. That makes swapping a worn strap or adjusting fit between dives straightforward, even with cold hands.

The Nose Pocket

Equalizing your ears (pinching your nose and gently blowing to equalize pressure as you descend) is something you do repeatedly on every dive.

The Icon has a large, easy-to-reach nose pocket. That is a specific design choice that pays off when you are diving in gloves, where reaching into a tight pocket becomes awkward quickly.

This is also a recreational mask, not a technical diving mask. It does not have a single-lens design for attaching a heads-up display, and the low volume, while an asset for recreational diving, is not the ultra-low volume that some freedive-specific masks carry.
