Scubapro Zoom Mask: Low-Volume Dual-Lens Mask Built Around Corrective Vision

The Scubapro Zoom is a low-volume, dual-lens dive mask designed to fit a wide range of divers. It works well as a general-purpose mask, but it was clearly built with one diver in mind: someone who struggles to read their computer, gauges, or camera screen underwater because of their eyesight.

If that is you, the Zoom deserves a close look.

Why the Zoom Exists: The Corrective Lens System

Most masks are sealed units. If you need corrective lenses, you either bond prescription glass directly to the lens (a permanent, costly process) or squint your way through every dive.

The Zoom takes a different approach. It accepts positive diopter optical lenses that you swap in yourself, without any tools, in under a minute. Scubapro sells these separately (listed under SKU SCPZECL). Positive diopters correct for farsightedness, which is the most common reason divers find their gauges or dive computers blurry at arm's length.

The lens change system is genuinely new on this mask, not a carryover from an older design. That matters because it means the frame was engineered around the swap, not retrofitted to accept it.

If you need negative diopter correction (nearsightedness), this mask does not address that. It is worth checking with your optometrist about whether positive diopters are relevant to your prescription before purchasing.

Fit and Seal

The skirt is made from silicone rubber with a double feathered edge. A feathered edge means the silicone tapers to a thin, flexible rim at the point of contact with your face, which generally produces a more compliant seal across different face shapes than a flat-edged skirt.

The double layer adds a secondary line of defense against water intrusion, which matters on longer dives where small leaks become a real annoyance.

Scubapro describes the fit as universal, and the integrated buckle design works with their comfort strap system. The strap itself is a wide split design, which distributes pressure across the back of your head more evenly than a narrow single strap.

Low Volume: What That Means for You

Low volume refers to how little air space sits between your eyes and the lens. Less air space means two practical things.

First, if water gets in, clearing the mask takes less air. You tilt your head back slightly, press the top of the frame, and exhale through your nose to push the water out. With a low-volume mask, that process is faster and uses less of your breath.

Second, low-volume masks sit closer to your face, which can feel more natural and reduces the visual distortion at the edges of the lens.

The Lenses Themselves

The Zoom runs two front lenses, side by side, in a dual-lens configuration. Both lenses are tempered glass. Tempered glass is standard on quality dive masks because it is significantly stronger than ordinary glass and, if it does break, it shatters into small blunt pieces rather than sharp shards.

Nose Pocket and Equalization

Equalization is the process of adding a small amount of air to the spaces behind your eardrums as you descend, to match the increasing water pressure. You do this by pinching your nose and gently blowing. The Zoom's nose pocket is positioned for one-hand reach and is sized to accommodate thick gloves. If you dive in cold water and wear substantial gloves, this is a practical detail worth noting.

Colors and Coordination

The mask is available in multiple colors, and the sub-frames are designed to coordinate with Scubapro's Seawing Nova fins and Hydro Pro BCDs. If you are building a matched Scubapro kit, the Zoom fits that system. If you are not, the color options still give you choices without that being a factor.

Who This Mask Is Not For

If your vision is fine underwater and you do not need corrective lenses, the Zoom is a capable mask, but its main design advantage is not relevant to you. There are other masks at this level that might suit you just as well for less specific reasons.

If you need nearsightedness correction rather than farsightedness correction, the optional lenses here will not help. Bonded prescription lenses through a specialist would be the better route.

And if you prefer a wide panoramic lens rather than a dual-lens setup, the Zoom is not that mask. Its strength is the corrective lens system and the close, low-volume fit, not an extra-wide field of view.
