Garmin Fenix 9 Pro Multisport Smartwatch: A Titanium Multisport Watch With Scuba and Apnea Dive Tracking

The Garmin Fenix 9 Pro Multisport Smartwatch is a titanium-cased GPS watch that combines daily training, navigation, and health tracking with a real recreational dive mode.

It fits best if you are a recreational diver who also runs, rides, swims, hikes, or trains in the gym. If your diving stays within single-gas recreational limits and you want one watch for daily wear and travel, this is a strong candidate.

If you need a multi-gas technical dive computer, this is not that tool. The dive mode is built around one gas at a time.

Dive tracking

The Fenix 9 Pro is dive-rated to 40 meters. It runs a Buhlmann ZHL-16c decompression model with gradient factors.

The watch supports scuba and apnea modes. Scuba mode handles one gas at a time, with air or nitrox between 21% and 40% oxygen. Conservatism can be set to low, medium, or high.

Deep stops use custom gradient factors. The watch includes a basic NDL and gas planner, plus automatic dive start and end.

Alerts are vibration only underwater. The backlight can be configured to stay on, and the 3-axis dive compass gives you heading, 90-degree left and right turns, and a reciprocal bearing.

After the dive, a surface widget shows surface interval, no-fly time, nitrogen loading, CNS, OTU, and tissue compartment status. Dive logs sync to the Garmin Dive app with saved entry and exit locations.

Training and daily use

Outside the water, the Fenix 9 Pro is a full multisport watch with more than 100 activity profiles. It tracks running, cycling, pool and open-water swimming, hiking, skiing, golf, and gym work.

Runners get PacePro pacing, ClimbPro, endurance score, hill score, daily suggested workouts, Garmin Coach plans, and race predictions. Triathlon and multisport profiles include automatic transitions.

Health tracking includes wrist-based heart rate, Pulse Ox, ECG, HRV status, sleep coaching, nap detection, and training readiness.

Build, battery, and navigation

The 43mm case uses a titanium case and bezel with a sapphire crystal lens and a silicone strap. The AMOLED display is 1.3 inches and readable at up to 3,000 nits.

The watch has leakproof inductive buttons, an integrated LED flashlight with white, red, and green output, and a built-in speaker and microphone. It is dive-rated and tested to U.S. military standards for thermal, shock, and water resistance.

Smartwatch battery life on the 43mm model is up to 10 days. Activity mode runs up to 18 hours normally, up to 50 hours in max battery mode, and up to 15 hours in max accuracy mode.

Navigation includes preloaded TopoActive maps, multi-band GPS with SatIQ, an altimeter, barometer, and electronic compass. Dynamic round-trip routing and NextFork trail guidance are also included.

Music storage, Garmin Pay, phone calls, voice assistant support, and smart notifications round out the daily-wear side of the watch.

Who should skip it

Technical divers planning staged decompression or trimix should pass. This is a single-gas dive watch with nitrox support capped at 40% oxygen. It is not a multi-gas computer.

If you only dive and do not use the multisport training tools, a dedicated dive computer may be simpler. The Fenix 9 Pro earns its place when you want one device across training, travel, and recreational diving.
