If you dive in cooler water or need a full-length suit for extended bottom time, the Tortuga is not the right choice. It is built for warmth in genuinely warm conditions, not as a compromise suit for temperate seas.

What the 2.5mm Thickness Actually Means

Neoprene thickness is the main dial for thermal protection. At 2.5mm, the Tortuga sits at the thin end of the wetsuit range.

That is intentional. In water temperatures typically found in tropical destinations, a thicker suit would leave you overheated before you even get in. The 2.5mm material keeps the chill off during a surface interval or a long snorkel session without cooking you.

What it will not do is keep you warm in water below around 25°C (77°F). If your dive site runs cooler than that, you will want something thicker.

In that case, a thicker full-length suit, or a shorty plus a separate vest layer, would serve you better across different conditions.
