What Makes the Fit Different

Most mask problems come down to the skirt, the soft seal that sits against your face. The Reveal X1 uses what Aqualung calls Advanced Fit Technology (AFT): textured bands of silicone are molded directly into the edge of the skirt.

That texture creates a more consistent seal against the skin than a plain smooth edge, which matters on longer dives when small movements and pressure changes can let water creep in.

The skirt shape itself is the result of years of fit research. Aqualung calls it a Universal Advanced Silicone Skirt (UASS), a wrap-around geometry designed to sit correctly on a wider range of face shapes than a standard skirt profile. The silicone is a crystal-clear grade, which keeps the skirt soft and pliable rather than stiff, and the double feathered edge helps it conform closely to the contours around your nose and cheeks.

None of this guarantees a perfect fit for every face, because no mask does. But the design is genuinely aimed at reducing the trial-and-error that plagues mask shopping.

Low Volume: Why It Matters

Low volume means there is less air space between the lens and your eyes. Two practical benefits follow from that.

First, if water does get in, you clear it with less effort. You tilt your head back slightly, press the top of the frame, and exhale through your nose. Less air space means less water to push out.

Second, a low-volume mask sits closer to your face, which generally improves your field of view and makes the mask feel less bulky. For recreational depths this is a comfort and convenience advantage rather than a safety-critical one, but divers who have switched from a high-volume mask tend to notice it immediately.

The Lens

The Reveal X1 uses a single tempered glass lens. Tempered glass is standard on quality dive masks for good reason: it is far more resistant to pressure and impact than regular glass, and if it does break, it crumbles into small blunt pieces rather than sharp shards.

A single front lens gives you an uninterrupted view with no central divider. That suits most recreational divers well. If you need prescription lenses, note that a single-lens design has different corrective options than a twin-lens mask, so check with your optician or dive shop before buying.

The frame is molded from bright yellow and orange materials under Aqualung's HI-VIS system. The intent is to make you more visible to your buddy and to the boat in conditions where visibility is reduced. It is a small but practical detail.

Buckles and Strap

The buckles attach directly to the silicone skirt rather than to a rigid frame, which is part of why Aqualung can claim this is the lightest single-lens, non-frameless mask in their lineup. Frameless masks are lighter still, but they trade off some structural rigidity. The Reveal X1 sits between the two: it has a frame for durability and lens protection, but the direct-to-skirt buckle attachment removes some of the bulk.

The strap is a spherical silicone design, shaped to sit across the back of the head without the strap rolling or bunching. The buckles use a ratcheting system with a single quick-button release, so you can make fine adjustments one-handed and pull the mask off quickly at the surface.

The large button is specifically designed to work with thick gloves, which is worth noting if you dive in cold water where dexterity is reduced.

Nose Pocket and Equalization

The nose pocket is described as large and easy to reach. That matters every time you descend. As you go deeper, the pressure increases and you need to equalize your ears by pinching your nose and gently blowing. A cramped or stiff nose pocket makes this harder than it needs to be. A roomy, accessible one lets you equalize naturally without fighting the mask.
