How the Blade Works

The blade is made from a techno-polymer alloy, a material chosen for its combination of stiffness and spring. It is firm enough to push water effectively but flexible enough to rebound between kicks rather than fighting your legs.

The standout design element is the "armadillo" hinge, a highly elastic membrane sitting at the base of the blade. During your downstroke, it absorbs and stores energy. Just before your upstroke begins, it releases that stored energy, giving you a small but real boost on every kick cycle. The effect is that your legs are doing less work per unit of thrust.

The blade is attached to the foot pocket at the mid-foot rather than at the toe. This mid-foot flex joint shifts where the fin bends during each kick. The result is reduced strain on your ankles and toes, which matters on longer dives when fatigue accumulates in exactly those spots.

Along the sides of the blade, rubber ribs channel water down its length. Without them, water spills sideways off the edges of the fin on each stroke, wasting effort. The ribs keep more water moving in the direction you actually want to go.

The blade is non-vented, meaning there are no holes or channels cut through it. Vented blades reduce drag on the recovery stroke but sacrifice some thrust. The Express prioritizes thrust, which suits divers who want direct, responsive propulsion rather than an easy flutter kick.

The Foot Pocket

The foot pocket is rubber, using materials of varying elasticity in different zones to match the shape of a foot more closely than a uniform material can. The goal is a fit that feels natural rather than clamped.

An integrated power transmission belt runs through the pocket structure. On a hard kick, a foot pocket without reinforcement can stretch and deform, absorbing energy that should be going to the blade. The belt prevents that stretch, so more of your kick reaches the water.

The underside of the pocket has anti-slip rubber pads. On a wet boat deck, a smooth rubber sole can send you sliding. The pads give you grip when you are moving around before and after the dive.

Travel and Packing

Full-foot fins are generally lighter and more compact than their open-heel equivalents, and the Express fits that pattern. If you are a diver who travels with carry-on luggage or counts every kilogram in a checked bag, that difference is real.

The fins come in multiple sizes and colors. Fit is critical with full-foot fins because there is no strap to compensate for a loose pocket, so sizing carefully before you buy matters.
