Warmth and Material

The upper is 7mm neoprene, constructed from nylon-2 neoprene rubber with glued and sewn seams. Combining both gives you a seam that holds its shape and stays warm longer.

Seam placement matters too. Aqualung positions the seams away from the widest parts of the foot, which reduces the chance of a seam digging into your foot during a long dive or a long surface interval.

The sole is 8mm thick, hard, and treaded. That extra millimeter over the neoprene upper is intentional: the sole takes the most punishment, and the added thickness gives you meaningful protection against punctures, sharp shells, and urchin spines.

The heel cap, toe, and top-of-foot panels are twice as thick as in Aqualung's standard boots. These are exactly the areas that take the most abuse during entries, exits, and fin kicks against hard surfaces. Fit and Entry

The Superzip closes with a #10 YKK toothed zipper, which is a heavy-gauge, non-corrosive zipper. A #10 is notably larger and more robust than the zippers on most standard dive boots. It is designed to survive repeated saltwater exposure and years of use without corroding or snagging.

A locking hook-and-loop tab sits at the top of the zipper to hold it closed and prevent it from working down during a dive.

The top of the boot has elastic binding, which keeps the opening snug and resists the kind of fraying that eventually opens up cheaper boots at the ankle.

The high-cut design covers the ankle fully. That adds a layer of ankle support in currents and on uneven terrain, and it also means a drysuit or wetsuit leg can tuck in cleanly over the top.
