Divers Alert Network (DAN) and Garmin have linked DAN’s emergency hotline to Garmin’s inReach satellite communicators, the two organizations announced September 9, 2026. If you dive with an inReach and carry a DAN membership, a Garmin Response coordinator can now pull in DAN’s dive medicine specialists during an emergency.

How to Set It Up

Add your DAN member number to the Emergency Notes section of your inReach account.

What Happens in an Emergency

An inReach is a handheld satellite communicator. Pressing its SOS button sends a message from the surface to Garmin Response, a coordination center staffed 24 hours a day. Garmin Response contacts you, your emergency contacts, and local search and rescue. If it sees a DAN member number in your account, it can also contact DAN’s hotline so a dive medicine specialist can advise on the case while rescue coordination continues. Once you reach a medical facility, DAN’s Medical and Assistance Services may stay involved.

Before Your Next Trip

This coordinates a response. It doesn’t guarantee one. Garmin Response still depends on local search and rescue resources at your dive site. You need an active inReach satellite subscription and an active DAN membership for this to work, and some countries regulate or ban satellite communicators, so check local rules before you travel.

If you’re a member of a different DAN organization, confirm this setup works with them too. Full details are on DAN’s website.
