It’s quite easy to get lost in the vast world of recommendations when looking for a new destination to visit, from accommodation to transportation to activities. Yet, Egypt offers endless activities both on land and underwater. From riding horses and camels to sky jumping over the pyramids and visiting archaeological sites and museums, to kite surfing and diving; Egypt has it all.
When it comes to diving in the Red Sea, there’s no shortage of dive centers, dive sites, or liveaboards to choose from, regardless of your certification and interests. All divers can expect an outstanding variety of marine and coral life, historic wrecks, and abundant sea life.
Factor into that the nearly ideal year-round conditions, clear visibility, and easy currents in many sites, and Egypt becomes the perfect place to learn and work on your underwater skills. If you’re looking to spend more time underwater, choose a liveaboard, where you’ll explore far-away dive sites, experience stronger currents, and (hopefully) encounter pelagics.
One highly-rated operator is the Golden Dolphin, with four vessels operating in the Red Sea. The newest addition to their fleet is the Golden Dolphin IV. Built in 2019 and completed in 2021, this is the biggest vessel in the fleet at 151 feet long (46 m).
Designed to deliver the ultimate boating experience, this boat is custom-built for comfort—highlights include free WiFi and an onboard hot tub. It is also available for private charters and large groups.
Let’s dive into our review of the Golden Dolphin IV.
To help you decide whether this liveaboard fits your dive style, budget, and comfort needs, we’ve researched the boat, itinerary, onboard experience, diving setup, and overall value.
We review liveaboards based on the details that matter most during a multi-day dive trip, including cabins, food, crew support, dive operations, safety, route quality, and how the boat compares with similar options in the destination.

Anybody interested in diving has seen pictures, posts, or videos of Spanish dancers, sharks, or dolphins in the Red Sea. The clarity of the water alone stands out, but add to that the chance to encounter marine life such as hammerheads, dolphins, dugongs, manta rays, nudibranchs, turtles, and more, and diving Egypt becomes truly spectacular.
Temperatures across the region have spiked, with land temperatures ranging from 46.4 (8 C) to 122 F (50 C), hitting their peak in July and August. Water temperatures range from 61 (16 C) to 86 F (30 C)., which makes the Red Sea the ideal destination almost year round, especially for those who want warm-water diving.
Offering one and two-week trips, the Golden Dolphin IV operates throughout the year along different routes. Guests can also request a specific route for a private charter or large groups.
Itineraries span from the far north and the Straits of Tiran to the furthest point south near the Egyptian and Sudanese border at sites such as Zabargad and St. John. It is not uncommon to see sharks in some of these sites depending on the season, with encounters including thresher sharks, oceanic whitetips, hammerheads, and more.
Expect three or four dives per day with two dives on the last day, although everything is of course dependent on the weather and sea conditions.
Certified divers receive free nitrox and others can choose to complete their specialty training onboard. Along with two zodiacs for easier pick up and drop off, the Golden Dolphin IV features professionally trained, multilingual dive guides to make sure guests have the best experience possible.
The latest addition to—and biggest boat in—the Golden Dolphin fleet, the 151-foot (46 m) Golden Dolphin IV was built in 2019 and completed in 2021. This luxury vessel offers a dreamy dive experience starting with welcome drinks for guests upon arrival, fine cuisine, seaview cabins, outdoor showers, and a hot tub.
Comfortably accommodating 28 guests in 14 air-conditioned ensuite double cabins, the boat features four cabins on the lower deck and four cabins on the upper deck with a variety of bed configurations.
Shared spaces include two air-conditioned salons, with one on the main deck and another on the upper deck—the ideal spot to enjoy the breathtaking ocean views. An outdoor lounge is comfortably furnished with couches and bean bags. While the spacious dining area is located on the lower deck, there are three bars located on the main, upper, and sundeck, where there’s also a hot tub and sun loungers for relaxing.
The dive deck has enough space for gear storage and assembly, hangers to dry wetsuits and towels, and a large dive platform for easy entry and exit. In addition, the Golden Dolphin IV is equipped with all the necessary safety equipment including life rafts, life jackets, first aid kids, defibrillators, fire extinguishers, oxygen, fire alarms, two zodiacs, and a crew fully trained in first aid.
Non-divers are welcome on cruises, and can either rent snorkel gear or bring their own. Free Wi-Fi is available, depending upon network availability in certain spots, so guests can stay connected if necessary.
When it comes to dining, the Golden Dolphin IV crew works hard to prepare local delicacies and international cuisines, including vegan and vegetarian options to cater to everyone’s taste. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served either in buffet-style or alfresco, allowing guests to enjoy the view and weather while dining on delicious food prepared daily with fresh ingredients.
Complimentary cold and hot drinks are served throughout the day, along with snacks, to ensure guests stay hydrated and full to maintain their energy levels. There’s also an onboard espresso machine and a fully stocked bar with beverages, beer, spirits, and local wine available for an additional cost.
Take a moment to look at this.
