Micronesia, known as ‘The Federated States of Micronesia’ is a country that is spread all across the Western Pacific Ocean. Micronesia is made up of 600 islands, with 4 island states including Chuuk, Yap, Pohnpei, and Kosrae. The islands of Micronesia really can be described as an island paradise, with huge shade providing palm trees, beaches, ancient ruins as well as some of the worlds most incredible dive sites.

The opulent liveaboard Truk Master is famous for offering the best wreck diving (over 60 wrecks) ranging from a variety of wrecks; supply vessels, planes, and submarines. The Black Pearl has been around since 2019 and is a truly magnificent liveaboard. It can accommodate up to 28 guests and is 48, 6 meters/ 159 feet long. There is ample space on board with a large dive deck with camera stations. The liveaboard can reach a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. All the cabins have air-conditioning as well as LED TVs in the room. There is a large entertainment area with a diverse range of games to keep you entertained. The sundeck will provide you with many relaxation options including a Jacuzzi, tanning benches and a high-performance telescope for stargazing.

The Palau Siren was built in 2012 and is handcrafted from ironwood and teak. It was renovated in 2014 with modern amenities without losing that old Phinisi style that it has. The lounge areas and sun deck offer the perfect relaxation options between dives. They also have massage options that are available daily.

December to March is the high season, during which the sea is calm and the weather dry. May, June and September is the low season, when the prices and the number of tourists are lower.
The majority of liveaboards travel around Micronesia for 7 to 10 nights. Some Liveaboards will provide an all-round transfer from the airport to the port or from the hotel to the port, if not for free then for a small fee. Chuuk is home to its own airport. Known as Chuuk International Airport. There are only 3 airlines that enter this airport however the best way to get to Chuuk is via Hawaii or Guam.
Top Liveaboard Dive Sites
Hiroshi Point, Kosrae
Hiroshi Point is known for its giant coral heads and sensational marine life that dart around. At this incredible dive site, you’ll see spotted eagle rays gliding above the corals as well as many different types of reef sharks. The seabed is an incredible shade of white that really helps you to distinguish the fantastic colors along the reef. Hiroshi Point is known for its picture-perfect underwater landscape so make sure to take your camera with you.
Mi’il Channel, Yap
If you’re looking to dive with manta rays, then Mi’il Channel is the place for you. The manta rays that visit this area are so well known by the locals in Yap that they have been given their own names. There is an area at the opening of the channel known as ‘Manta Ridge,’ which is what has made this location one of the most famous dive sites in the world, with manta rays visiting pretty much all year round. Mi’il Channel offers divers an epic and fast-paced drift dive.
Yap Caverns, Yap
Yap Caverns are known for their series of tunnels, canyons, and swim-throughs to explore. If you move into the shallower parts of this top dive site, you’ll be able to see an amphitheater-shaped, which is absolutely fascinating to see. There are huge numbers of marine life including white-tip and grey-tip reef sharks, hundreds of humphead parrotfish.
Fujikawa Maru, Chuuk
There are a number of wrecks found within the Truk Lagoon, however, most of them are too deep to explore by divers unless they are certified and experienced. However, the Fujikawa Maru was a cargo ship, which is located 9-18m below the surface. This huge vessel is packed full of airplane parts as well as live ammunition. This wreck dive can be penetrated in parts, making it a great experience enjoyed by all who dive it. This is known as one of the best wreck dives found within the Truk Lagoon.
Information to know about liveaboard diving in Fiji
Getting to Fiji is relatively easy as several airlines have regular flights from international locations such as Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Sydney as well as some countries in Europe. Initially, you land at Nadi International Airport, from there you can take a number of domestic flights to other airports around the various islands.
The languages spoken in Fiji are Fijian as well as Hindi, however, the majority to places speak English too.
Fiji is known for exporting minerals, fish and having great levels of tourism, which makes Fiji one of the most affluent islands in the Pacific.
The currency in Fiji is the Fijian Dollar and there are 2.11 Fijian dollars to $1.
Make sure that you always drink filtered water.
Diving season in Fiji is all year round.
Between the months of July through to December, you’ll find the best visibility, ranging from 10m-40m. However around this time is when the water is at its coldest temperature of 23C/74F, so you may require a full wetsuit for comfort.
The main season for diving is during the Fijian winter months of April through to October. This is also the annual holiday time for the country as well as other countries, which means prices go up and the beaches get a little busier than usual.
The months of November, April and May are known amongst divers as being the best time to dive because of how warm the water is at this time. Water temperature ranges from 28C/82F-30C/86F. This is also the rainy season, which is ideal if you would like to see manta rays and whale sharks.
Air temperature is at its warmest during the month of March where it reaches 26C/79F. The coolest month is July where air temperature reaches 23C/74F.
Diving is so varied throughout the waters surrounding Fiji and depths range from 5m-40m.
