The Algorithm and Dive Modes

All decompression calculations run on the Suunto Fused RGBM2 algorithm. RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubble Model) is a well-established approach that accounts for microbubble formation, tending to produce conservative no-decompression limits. That conservatism suits recreational diving well.

The D5 runs four operating modes:

Alerts and Safety

The D5 uses both audible and vibrating alarms for important dive-profile warnings. That combination matters in practice: underwater noise can make audio alerts easy to miss, and a wrist vibration cuts through the distraction. You get both.

Navigation: The Built-In Compass

The onboard compass is a 3D tilt-compensating digital compass, accurate up to a 45-degree tilt. A tilt-compensating compass means you do not have to hold your wrist perfectly level to get a reliable heading, which is a real advantage when you are finning and your arm is moving. It gives you bearing tracking, cardinal directions, declination adjustment, and headings in degrees.
