Shearwater Teric: Wrist-Worn Dive Computer for Recreational Through Technical Divers

The Shearwater Teric is a full-featured wrist-worn dive computer that covers every level of diving, from recreational open-circuit dives on air or nitrox all the way through trimix technical diving and closed-circuit rebreather use.

If you are an advanced or technical diver looking for one computer that will not limit you as your diving evolves, the Teric is worth serious consideration.

It is also genuinely usable by a recreational diver who wants a premium watch-style computer with room to grow. But be honest with yourself: if you are only ever going to dive recreational depths on nitrox, there are simpler computers that will serve you just as well for less. The Teric earns its place when you are already pushing into technical diving, planning to, or simply want the best wrist-worn display available without compromise.

The Display

The screen is the first thing you will notice about the Teric, and it genuinely sets it apart.

It uses a 1.39-inch AMOLED panel at 400 x 400 resolution, the same display technology found in high-end smartphones. AMOLED produces true black by switching pixels off entirely, which means every colour pops against a dark background rather than washing out against a grey LCD backlight.

Underwater, in variable light conditions, this matters. Colours are distinct, contrast is high, and you are not squinting to separate a warning from a normal reading.

The display is protected by sapphire crystal glass, which resists scratching far better than standard mineral glass. The bezel and buttons are 316 stainless steel. This is not a plastic-framed watch computer trying to look premium; the construction is solid throughout.

Two layout options, Standard and Big, let you choose between fitting more data on screen or running larger characters that are easier to read at a glance. If you normally struggle to read small dive watch displays, the Big layout addresses that directly.

Fifteen colour scheme options let you customise how information is presented. That is aesthetic, but it also means you can set up colour-coded readings in a way that makes sense to your eye.

Diving Modes

The Teric runs five modes, covering a wide range of diving disciplines:

• OC Recreational: Open-circuit recreational diving with nitrox support up to 99% oxygen. Tracks no-decompression limits using the Bühlmann GF algorithm.
• OC Technical: Open-circuit technical diving with trimix enabled. Supports up to 5 open-circuit gases, so you can manage complex gas switch profiles.
• CC/BO (Closed-Circuit / Bailout): Rebreather mode with fixed PPO2 setpoint, plus bailout open-circuit gas management.
• Gauge: Runs as a bottom timer and stopwatch with dive logging, for when you want to manage your own profile independently.
• Freedive: Configurable sampling rates and alarms suited to breath-hold diving, rather than a scuba-adapted afterthought.

The decompression algorithm throughout is the Bühlmann GF (Gradient Factor) model. If you are technical diving, you already know why gradient factor control matters. The Teric gives you that control rather than hiding it behind a fixed conservatism setting.

Air Integration

The Teric supports wireless air integration and can connect to up to 4 transmitters simultaneously.

For a technical diver managing multiple cylinders, that is a meaningful number. You can monitor your stage and deco bottles on the same screen as your decompression data, without switching devices or doing mental arithmetic between separate gauges.

Tank pressure, air consumption rate, and gas-to-reserve calculations are all accessible through the info button during a dive.

Battery and Charging

The Teric uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with wireless charging via an included USB cable and charging station.

Battery life runs up to 30 hours in dive mode and up to 50 hours in watch mode when air integration is active. That covers multi-day liveaboard trips without needing to recharge between every dive, though you will want to top it up each evening on longer trips.

One note: the specs list the battery as factory replaceable, not user replaceable in the field. Plan your charging accordingly on remote expeditions.

Planning Tools

The Teric includes both an NDL planner for recreational no-decompression dives and a deco planner for technical profiles, all on the computer itself without needing a separate device or app.

The on-wrist planners let you run through a planned profile before you enter the water and check how gas choices and depths affect your decompression obligation. For a technical diver, having that built in rather than relying solely on a phone app is a practical convenience.

Dive Log and Connectivity

The Teric stores up to 500 hours of dive logs at a 10-second sampling rate, which is substantial even for an active technical diver logging long bottom times.

Log transfer to your phone, tablet, or desktop is handled via Bluetooth through the free Shearwater Cloud app. Within the app you can review depth profiles, water temperature changes, gas pressure data, air consumption, and surface interval times. You can also edit log entries, sync across devices, and update the computer's firmware without connecting a cable.

The on-computer log view also gives you a quick look at graphs and dive summaries without needing to pull out your phone.

Watch Functionality and Everyday Wear

The Teric is designed to be worn as a daily watch, not just a dive instrument you strap on at the dock.

It comes with a black strap on a standard 22mm lug width, which means it is compatible with a wide range of third-party watch straps. Shearwater also sells additional strap colours directly. Fifteen watch face options let you set up the display for everyday use separately from your dive configuration.

Programmable timers, alarms, a stopwatch, and a digital compass are all accessible on the surface as well as underwater.

Depth Rating

The Teric is rated to 200 metres (660 feet). That exceeds the practical limits of open-circuit technical diving on trimix and well exceeds recreational limits. The rating is not a concern for any diver this computer is aimed at.

Who This Is Not For

If you are a recreational diver who wants a simple, affordable computer and has no plans to move into technical diving, the Teric is more computer than you need right now.

If you prefer a large-screen console-style display over a wrist computer, the Teric's watch form factor will feel limiting regardless of its screen quality.

And if you are a technical diver who already owns a capable primary computer and is looking only for a backup, there are less expensive options that would serve that specific role.

The Teric makes the most sense for the diver who wants one computer for every kind of diving they do or plan to do, presented in a watch form factor with a display that does not compromise on readability.
