That single fact separates it from most full face masks on the market, and it is the reason this mask exists. If you are a public safety diver, a rescue diver, or a cold-water recreational diver who wants the comfort and protection of a full face mask without replacing your entire breathing system, the Spectrum is worth a serious look.

What a Full Face Mask Actually Gives You

A full face mask covers your entire face rather than just your eyes and nose. Your regulator's second stage (the part you breathe from) mounts directly into the mask, so there is no mouthpiece to clench between your teeth.

That matters in a few concrete ways. No jaw fatigue on long or cold dives. No dry mouth from breathing through a bite piece for an hour. And because your nose is inside the mask, equalization (clearing your ears as you descend) happens naturally without removing your hand from your equipment.

The Spectrum adds one more benefit that standard full face masks do not always include: a double seal between the inner frame and your face, which improves the fit and reduces the chance of a small leak letting cold water in.

The Bring-Your-Own-Regulator Design

Most full face masks come as a sealed system with a proprietary regulator built in. The Spectrum takes a different approach. You connect your own second-stage regulator to the mask, replacing the standard mouthpiece connection with a fitting that integrates into the mask body.

This matters for a few reasons. You keep using a regulator you trust and that is already serviced and configured for your conditions. You also avoid the cost of buying a purpose-built FFM regulator system.

The mask is compatible with most second-stage regulators, but not all. Before you buy, confirm that your specific second stage is compatible with the Spectrum's adapter system. OTS's documentation or a qualified dealer can verify this for your regulator model.

Build Materials

The materials list here is specific, and it tells you something about the mask's intended use.

• Visor: Coated tempered glass with an iridium treatment for wide, clear vision. Tempered glass is more scratch-resistant and optically cleaner than polycarbonate, and it will not fog the same way cheaper plastics do.
• Skirt: Hypoallergenic silicone rubber, which sits softer against your face than standard rubber and is less likely to cause skin irritation on extended dives.
• Visor clamps: Black polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), a rigid engineering plastic that handles cold water and pressure without becoming brittle.
• Head harness: EPDM, a synthetic rubber blend known for flexibility and resistance to degradation in water and UV exposure.
• Inner frame, buckles, and buckle locks: Glass-filled Zytel, a reinforced nylon that is lightweight, strong, and corrosion-resistant.

None of these are budget materials. The component choices reflect a mask built for demanding conditions, not casual warm-water use.

Depth Rating and Cold Water Use

The Spectrum is tested to 164 feet (50 meters) per the European standard EN 250:2014, and it has also been tested for use with breathing air per EN 12021. These are formal European safety standards, not marketing claims.

OTS specifically designed this mask for water temperatures below 50°F (10°C). Cold water diving is exactly where a full face mask earns its place. When the water is cold enough to cause facial numbness or pain with a standard mask, covering your entire face makes a real difference in comfort and focus.

One important note from OTS: the mask's cold-water performance ultimately depends on the second-stage regulator you pair with it. A regulator not rated for cold water will limit what the Spectrum can do in those conditions. Make sure your second stage is suited to the temperatures you are diving in.

The Five-Point Head Harness

A full face mask needs to stay sealed under pressure, and a two-strap system is not enough to do that reliably. The Spectrum uses a five-point spider harness made from EPDM rubber. Five attachment points distribute the clamping force evenly across your head, which means a more consistent seal and less pressure on any one spot. For public safety or rescue divers who may be entering the water quickly or working in current, a harness that stays put matters more than it might in a calm recreational dive.

Communications

The Spectrum supports clear communications. Full face masks make this possible because your mouth is free and your face is enclosed, which allows underwater communication systems to mount cleanly and pick up your voice without the muffling that a mouthpiece causes. If you are diving in a team environment where voice communication is part of your protocol, the Spectrum is built to accommodate that. Specific communication hardware compatibility is worth confirming with OTS or your dealer.

Who This Mask Is Not For

If you dive in warm water and your main goal is recreational reef or wreck diving, a full face mask adds complexity and cost that a standard mask and regulator setup does not. The Spectrum is not a casual upgrade for tropical diving.

It is also not a beginner's first piece of gear. Donning and doffing a full face mask correctly, clearing it if it floods, and integrating your own regulator all require practice and ideally some instruction. OTS recommends proper training before diving with a full face mask, and that recommendation is worth taking seriously.
