Mares Puck Pro Ultra Lite: Wrist-Worn Dive Computer for No-Fuss Tracking

The Mares Puck Pro Ultra Lite is a wrist-worn scuba dive computer built around simplicity. One button. A clear screen. A proven decompression algorithm. No menu maze.

If you are newly certified or returning to diving after a break, this is the kind of computer that gets out of your way and lets you focus on the dive itself.

What It Does Underwater

The Puck Pro Ultra Lite runs the Buhlmann ZH-L16C algorithm to calculate your no-decompression limits in real time. That is the same algorithm used across a wide range of respected dive computers. It tells you how long you can stay at your current depth before dissolved nitrogen in your body reaches a level where you need to ascend slowly and carefully.

The display shows you the essentials: current depth, dive time, and safety stop guidance. A safety stop is a brief pause, typically at around five metres, at the end of a dive to allow your body to off-gas nitrogen before you surface. The screen is described as high-contrast, and it is readable in low-light conditions, so murky water or a shaded reef should not make you squint.

Navigation is handled by a single button. For a new diver, that is a genuine advantage. Fumbling through menus underwater, with gloves on and a current running, is not where you want to be learning a device.

Nitrox Support

The Puck Pro Ultra Lite is compatible with Nitrox mixes from 21% to 50% oxygen, on a single-gas basis.

Nitrox is an air mixture with a higher percentage of oxygen than standard air. Breathing it means less nitrogen enters your body per dive, which can extend your no-decompression time or reduce surface intervals between dives. If you are not yet Nitrox certified, the computer still works perfectly on regular air (which is 21% oxygen, the bottom of that range).

The algorithm also includes two gradient factor options. Gradient factors let you adjust how conservative or liberal the decompression calculation is. A more conservative setting gives you shorter bottom times but more buffer before nitrogen becomes a concern. A less conservative setting stretches your time a little. For most recreational divers, the default setting is the right place to start, and the option to adjust it is there when you are ready to explore it.

Connectivity and Logging

The computer connects to your smartphone via integrated Bluetooth. That means after a dive you can transfer your dive log wirelessly, without cables or docking stations.

Dive logging matters more than it might seem when you are starting out. Reviewing your depth profile, bottom times, and surface intervals helps you spot patterns, plan future dives, and build a record for your logbook.

Battery

The Puck Pro Ultra Lite runs on a CR2450 lithium battery, rated for up to 100 dives. That is a standard, widely available coin cell.

The battery is user-replaceable, which means you do not need to send the computer back to a service centre when it runs low. You swap it yourself. For a travelling diver or anyone who dives in batches across a season, that is a practical advantage.

Fit and Form

The computer wears on the wrist with a rubber band and has a watch-style form factor. It is unisex and designed to be worn as a dive watch. The rubber band is a sensible choice for dive gear: it is comfortable against a wetsuit, does not corrode, and is easy to clean after saltwater dives.

A Few Honest Considerations

The Puck Pro Ultra Lite is a single-gas computer. If you plan to dive with multiple gas mixes or switch gases mid-dive, this computer does not support that. It is built for straightforward recreational diving, not technical multi-gas profiles.

It also does not appear to include an air integration feature, meaning it does not connect to your tank to show remaining air pressure on screen. You will still read your pressure gauge (called an SPG, or submersible pressure gauge) separately.

For a new or recreational diver who wants a clean, reliable computer with Nitrox capability and wireless logging, the Puck Pro Ultra Lite is a well-considered choice. If you are heading into technical diving or multi-gas setups, you will eventually want something more capable. But for the diving most recreational divers actually do, this computer covers the ground that matters.
