The Mask: What "Panoramic Wide View" Actually Means

It uses a main front lens with additional side lenses precisely fitted to meet it, so the gaps between panels are minimized. The result is a wider horizontal field of view than a standard two-lens mask gives you, which matters when you are scanning a reef or watching fish move around you.

The lenses themselves are tempered glass, meaning they are heat-treated to be significantly harder and more shatter-resistant than ordinary glass. If a lens takes a knock, tempered glass breaks into small, blunt fragments rather than sharp shards. That is a genuine safety advantage, and it is the industry standard for quality masks for good reason.

The frame is polycarbonate, a tough plastic that holds its shape under pressure and resists impact. It keeps the mask rigid where it needs to be without adding unnecessary weight.

The Skirt and Fit

The skirt is the soft part of the mask that rests against your face and creates the seal. On the Pano 4, it is made from 100% silicone rubber.

Silicone is the material you want here. It stays soft and flexible in cold water, does not degrade quickly in sunlight, and conforms to the contours of your face better than cheaper PVC alternatives. A silicone skirt is one of the clearest indicators that a mask is built to last more than a season.

The skirt uses a double feathered edge design. This means the outer rim of the skirt tapers to a thin, flexible lip rather than ending in a blunt edge. That thin lip presses lightly and evenly against your skin, which reduces the chance of gaps forming when you change your facial expression or smile underwater.

Fit is always personal, and no description can guarantee a mask will seal on your face. If you have the chance to try it before buying, press the mask gently to your face without the strap and inhale lightly through your nose. If it holds without the strap, the shape suits you.

The Strap

The Pano 4 uses a split strap, which divides at the back of your head into two bands rather than one. This spreads the holding force across a wider area of your head, which generally feels more comfortable over a long session and keeps the mask more stable when you hit the water from a boat or shore entry.

Adjusting the strap is handled by quick-adjust ratcheting buckles on each side of the mask. You click them in or out to fine-tune the fit. This is noticeably easier than the older slide-style buckles that require two hands and a fair amount of fumbling, especially with wet hands or gloves.

The Snorkel: What "Dry Top" Means and Why It Matters

The Supernova Dry is a dry-top snorkel. If you are new to the gear, here is what that means in practice.

A standard open-top snorkel is just a tube. If a wave washes over you or you dip below the surface, water comes straight in and you have to blow it out. A dry-top snorkel has a float valve at the top of the tube that seals automatically when the opening goes underwater, keeping most water out before it reaches your mouth.

This is genuinely useful for surface snorkeling in choppy conditions, or when you are still getting comfortable in the water and do not want to deal with clearing water from the tube constantly.

One honest note: dry-top snorkels are designed for surface use. If you are doing scuba diving and descend below the surface, you breathe from your regulator (the device connected to your tank), not the snorkel. The dry-top valve is not relevant underwater in that context. For snorkeling and surface swimming between dives, it does its job well.

What This Kit Is Not

The Pano 4's wide-view design is not a prescription-lens mask. If you need corrective lenses to see clearly underwater, this mask does not accommodate them out of the box.

This is also not a freediving or spearfishing mask. Those disciplines favor very low internal volume (less air space inside the mask) to reduce the effort needed to equalize pressure on a breath-hold dive. The Pano 4 prioritizes field of view over low volume, so it is not the tool for serious breath-hold diving.

For recreational scuba and snorkeling, though, the wide view is a genuine benefit rather than a compromise.
