Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye is the idyllic home away from home.
The resort features a variety of condos equipped with large living rooms and spacious kitchens, great for family and friends who want that homey feel.

Of course there are onsite restaurants and bars, spas, and pools so guests can feel far away from the hustle and bustle without leaving convenience and sophistication behind.

The resort runs parallel to the largest barrier reef system in the Western Hemisphere, offering plenty of marine activities, from snorkeling with sharks to vibrant wall diving and the bucket-list UNESCO Great Blue Hole.

Whether you want to learn to dive, already have a few years under your (dive) belt or are a serious scuba diver, there are a plethora of dive sites to suit your fancy.

The resort has the signature Magaritaville vibe of laid-back and luxurious. Along its shoreline runs the Belize Barrier Reef, bursting with vibrant marine flora and fauna that will make any diver smile from ear to ear.

Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye is a secluded, family-friendly bungalow retreat, approximately 13 miles north of San Pedro, Belize. The resort has the signature Margaritaville vibe of laid-back and luxurious. The Belize Barrier Reef runs along its shoreline, bursting with vibrant marine flora and fauna. The resort offers multiple dining options, poolside lounging, fun activities, and of course, mouth-watering margaritas!

Diving on your Doorstep

Not for the faint of heart, the UNESCO Great Blue Hole
Not for the faint of heart, the UNESCO Great Blue Hole

Off the beaten track and tucked away on Ambergris Caye, the Margaritaville beachfront is parallel to the Belize Barrier Reef. This 190-mile (300 km) dive paradise is but a section of the 560-mile-long (900 km) Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, which stretches past Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize. In other words, there is a lot of marine life and plenty of diving.

Their Dive & Activity Center is operated by PADI 5-star White Sands, a local dive shop. The diving is split into two tiers of packages—nearby and offshore. Local diving is within a 30 to 45-minute boat ride, ranging from 15 to 80 feet (5 to 25 m) and bursting with life, such as green turtles, manatees, and eagle rays.

These more mellow dive sites and conditions make Ambergris Caye a perfect place for anyone considering certification. Dive trips will often stop at the famous snorkeling spot Shark Ray Alley, where nurse sharks and southern stingray scooch up to you at the surface.

More advanced divers can choose to stay local or venture out on a full-day trip. The local Belize Barrier Reef has around 30 spots, many of which are 60 to 80 feet (18 to 25 m) deep canyons featuring interesting underwater formations, tunnels, dramatic drop-offs, and pinnacles. Here you’ll find a huge variety of marine life, including barracudas, wrasse, trumpetfish, sharks, cleaner shrimps, moray eels, turtles, butterflyfish, and big, beautiful soft corals swaying in the current. If you have an underwater camera, bring it.

For the ultimate Belizean bucket-list dive, serious divers should consider the Great Blue Hole. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a thrilling sapphire descent to over 100 feet (30 m), which then opens up into a wider cavern, decorated with stalactites and stalagmites 40 feet (12 m) long. The entire system is 480 feet deep and and dives past recreational limits are only suitable for those with technical training.

Laid-Back Luxury: The Resort

Some of us go away to be wined and dined—no more cooking and definitely no more cleaning. Some of us like the independence of making our own meals, relaxing away from the tourist hotspots. And a lot of us are somewhere in the middle—we like to relax by the pool, eat good food, and still have the freedom to do some things our way.

Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye sits right in that sweet spot. Guests can enjoy the luxury of 55 residential-style suites with large living rooms, spacious bedrooms, cozy patios, and inviting kitchens. The smallest suite is the one-bedroom junior suite at 568 square feet, accommodating two adults and two kids. The largest is the 3,650-square-foot oceanfront penthouse, accommodating six adults and two kids. Whether you’re booking a girlfriend getaway or family vacay, with such large spaces, you can enjoy each other’s company without stepping on each other’s toes.

All suites are spacious with big bedrooms and kitchenettes, ideal for post-dive naps and snacks. Divers can easily accommodate bulky underwater cameras, and stow away even larger scuba luggage, a welcome convenience for many.

All the bungalows feature soothing whitewash with blue-turquoise accents and nautical decorations to bring that beachy vibe inside. Some suites also feature outdoor lounge areas, beach access, and private terraces, perfect for alfresco happy hours.

Endless Entertainment: Amenities

Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye offers a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure in a laid-back, tropical setting. Guests can unwind at the St. Somewhere Spa with a full range of therapeutic spa treatments, such as facials, massages, and manicures. If your version of winding down is working out, then the Fins Up! fitness center is equipped with basic gym equipment. You can also burn off last night’s tacos and margaritas with a game in the pickleboard court.

Margaritaville Ambergris has two outdoor pools—one smaller family-oriented pool and one larger oceanfront with a poolside bar. Both feature lounge chairs and cabanas scattered around. For those who like to feel the sand between their toes, there are, of course, loungers on the beach and along the dock. Guests can use paddleboards and kayaks rent-free.

Margaritaville Ambergris can organize day trips, such as nurse shark snorkeling, fishing trips, scuba diving, and sunset cruises. If you want to venture beyond the resort, visit San Pedro or explore the surrounding wilderness. Roads are not conducive to cars, so golf carts are the local mode of transport. Understandingly they’re a bit bumpier than your sedan back home, but driving up rainforest trails in a goofy golf buggy is all part of the adventure.

Dining

In the heart of the resort is Riddles in the Sand, the main restaurant. Taste Belizean flavors, with dishes such as roast chicken, ceviche, and fresh fish tacos. Guests can choose to sit indoors or outdoors with the cool sea breeze. The Shoreline, a beachfront eatery with a beach-shack vibe, slings refreshing cocktails and a simple snack menu.

Keeping with the theme of less-is-more, Margaritaville Ambergris’ guests can also cook in their kitchens or reserve a spot at the Sun Baked BBQ. There, you can choose to receive a food package to cook yourself or reserve a chef for a premium experience. For cooking at home, staff will gladly buy provisions for you in town, complete with a receipt for proof-of-purchase.

Rent a BBQ pit or a BBQ chef at Sun Baked.
Guests can relax & drink in the lobby.
Of course you can always have a beachside beer and a sunset view.

For midday sun or after-dinner cocktails, guests can swing by either the Sandbar or the Boat. The popular Sandbar, located on the porch of Riddles in the Sand, offers outdoor seating with a fire going in the firepit most nights and an indoor lounge area with the TV tuned to sports. The Boat is the dry-side of the swim-up pool bar, so sip on minty mojitos with panoramic ocean views.

Getting to the resort

Secluded paradises are rarely near transportation hubs, so resort guests will need to fly into Belize’s main airport and then travel on to San Pedro. You can choose to do this via a scenic 15-minute flight or 90-minute boat trip. Once in San Pedro, a Margaritaville representative will welcome and accompany you on your final leg. You are now finally at the resort dock, where, of course, a refreshing margarita awaits.

Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye is the perfect getaway for those who are looking for an island vibe and want to get a bit off the beaten path. For scuba divers, the resort is a great base for exploring the Belize Barrier Reef, the UNESCO Great Blue Hole and Turneffe Atoll, Belize’s largest coral atoll.

For a day out of the wetsuit, guests can choose to do nothing at all, with relaxing spa treatments, sun loungers and ice-cold beers. Or dive into adventure, with a game of pickleball, a cruise in a kayak, or off-roading session in a golf buggy.

No matter what your dive trips look like—busy all the time or napping between every dive—, you won’t be disappointed with Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye and the beautiful underwater world waiting just beyond its shores.
