JadeYoga Voyager Mat

Not sure how to combine your biggest passions in life – travel and yoga – without having to compromise one or the other? Jade Yoga Voyager mat to the rescue! Designed to fit in your backpack or suitcase like a yoga block, it has what it takes to become your go-to travel companion.

But this isn’t where its perks end. The brand’s focus on sustainability and giving back mean that for every Voyager your purchase (which is made from eco-friendly materials, mind you), they plant a tree. Not too bad!

You can use the multi-purpose Voyager as a second layer by placing it on top of the yoga studio’s foam mat or on its own; just remember to not use it in extreme weather conditions. And, when you’re done practicing your Ashtanga poses, you can manually wash it with mild soap and let it rest in a dark place until the next time you grab it.

Curious to see how well it performs? Read on.

Our Overall Review

4.8

Reasons to buy

  • The mat is sustainable - there are no PVC elements found in the material - and its manufacturing is free of emissions
  • It’s one of the most lightweight yoga mats on the market
  • The traction is superb due to the open-cell construction of the mat (i.e. the possibility of slipping is minimized)
  • Because of the mat’s thin structure and low weight, you can easily fold it into a small block and carry it in your backpack
  • It’s travel-friendly
  • This mat is available in purple, midnight blue, olive green, and lavender
  • Made in America - lower carbon footprint

Reasons NOT to buy

  • The 1.5mm thickness implies that there’s not much padding to it but is some creasing of the fabric
  • The color of the mat will fade over time
  • Due to the nature of the mat’s material, it’s not suitable for severely high temperatures

Review

  • DiveIn Score: 4.8/5
  • Quality: 4.8/5
  • Comfort: 4.7/5
  • Performance: 4.9/5
  • Price/Quality: 4.8/5

The reason why so many yogis grew fond of Jade Yoga Voyager is the mat’s unification of the so-called professional construction and compactness. We’re talking about its grip that is often encountered with high-end yoga mats and 1.5mm of thickness along with 1.5 pounds of weight that make it suitable for all types of trips.

The other flex of this mat worth mentioning is its eco-friendliness. This stretches beyond the materials used for its manufacturing. The brand took it a step further by committing to plant a tree with every customer purchase. It sure feels good to support a company that puts its money where its mouth is, doesn’t it?

The natural construction and foldability of this mat mean that you will experience occasional creases and gradual fading the more you use it. But this is the sacrifice you’ll have to make if you want to minimize the amount of your waste and thus stay true to your beliefs about sustainability.

Quality

The rubber-built Jade Yoga Voyager is as sustainable as it gets. Aside from the rubber, you won’t find any PVC or similar synthetic fabrics incorporated into the mat. This is good news – not only will the mat not lead to the evaporation of dangerous toxins but it will also not end up in the landfill.

And it’s rare for a product to originate close to the market where it gets sold. Jade Voyager mats are produced in the United States cutting down on the carbon emissions of this sustainable mat.

Even though Voyager isn’t designed for daily use, you can exploit it to your advantage when you do happen to go on vacations, roll it out and practice yoga with, say, a beach or a mountain view. This relatively infrequent use will help preserve the original quality of the mat and serve you for years to come.

JadeYoga Voyager Mat Folded

Comfort

Don’t let the lack of thick cushioning fool you into thinking this mat won’t be supportive of your joints. The opposite is true – when there isn’t much padding included, you feel the ground better and it becomes easier to maintain stability while executing those challenging Vinyasa poses.

If anything, put a thin towel on top of the mat for peace of mind and you’re ready to take over the world (of yoga).

JadeYoga Voyager Mat With Yoga Block

Performance

If we had to choose one area where Jade Yoga Voyager truly shines, it would be its performance. Known for having great both wet and dry traction, the mat enables you to bend and stretch on repeat without having to worry about losing grip at any point. Who said you can’t have it all?

Thank the mat’s open-cell construction for the gripping you get from it. The naturally sticky rubber allows you to latch onto the mat even if you happen to release a couple of droplets of sweat. (Note that hot yoga isn’t compatible with this mat)

Price/Quality

We cannot stress enough how well the quality of this yoga mat matches its price. The value you get for this mid-budget mat is easily comparable to that of more pricey mats.

There is no ‘breaking in’ this mat or paying extra for its environmentally-friendly attributes – what you see is what you get. And this is a good thing given that you won’t get any nasty surprises when your mat arrives by mail; the only deed that will happen is Jade planting a tree in exchange for your purchase.

Peace of mind and a good conscience are also positive bi-products of this purchase, adding value to the Jade Voyager.

Buy This Yoga Mats If:

There’s no denying that Voyager is the king of traction. And if this is your main priority – along with low weight and portability – don’t think twice and get yourself one ASAP. If, however, you need more cushioning and a mat that will handle high temperatures and humidity well, you will be better off with its Manduka PRO sister.
