Girlfriend Collective ads started circulating on social media back in 2020 shortly after they were established. The brand was born in response to a spike in fast fashion, offering a sustainable, ethical option for activewear.
They make their garments out of recycled plastic bottles, and take painstaking measures to ensure plastic is actually being diverted from oceans and landfills. This brand remains the most ethical brand for active wear, putting them very high on our list of recommendations.
These leggings are quite stiff when first trying on, but they quickly mold to your body. The RPET and Spandex blend material is designed for performance, and it’s also a great option for yogis with shedding pets.
In addition to setting the gold standard for sustainability, the Girlfriend Collective Compression Pocket Leggings are quite functional, featuring large, functional thigh pockets. And while Girlfriend Collective clearly values sustainability, they also strive for inclusivity. Sizing options range from XXS to 6XL, and they offer a 28½” or 23¾” inseam.
These were designed for high intensity workouts, with high compression and sweat wicking technology. They fit true to size with great coverage for those deep squats or mild cellulite. Some reviews complain of a sagging waistband during use – one of the more glaring issues for this product.
While they are still a little pricey at $88, they are more affordable than many of the popular options like Lululemon or Alo.
We mentioned in our Athleta review that we don’t mind paying a little more if we know the products are being sourced responsibly, the workers are being paid fairly, and we’re still getting a phenomenal product.
