The Mercury Mitten from Black Diamond is a mid-level option for colder days. Skiers that get 10 days a year in will appreciate this when temperatures drop further away from freezing.
At the same time, the liner and the breathability of the material doesn’t make this exclusive to cold days either. Given the reliable waterproofing, this mitt is versatile enough to be an all-season handwear–as long as you won’t miss using your digits.
Our Overall Review
We have thoroughly tested - and read reviews from other experts and users. In summary, this is what we think:
Things we like:
-
Warmth comparable to the Guide Gloves but a little more practical for casual skiing
-
Bombproof build and premium warmth at a fair price
-
Removable liner has several benefits
Things we don't like:
Your mobility is severely limited by the build and insulation
Where to buy:
The Mercury Mitt is an indomitable all-season option for skiers who want something a cut above average. Toasty and rigorously waterproofed, the Mercury’s shell is made of sturdy synthetic fabrics stitched with kevlar thread to the goat leather palm.
Black Diamond submits the Mercury as the perfect all season glove, warm enough in the most demanding temperatures, with the breathability it takes to be viable when the springtime comes around. In our opinion, they’re probably a little too warm for year-round use, and you’ll have sweaty hands by the time closing day rolls around.
Though they might be a little much for your annual ski trip; riders who live in cold areas and want an affordable model that will last a couple seasons should give the Mercury Mitten a look before they bite the bullet on an expensive pair of Hestra gloves.
