The Roc Scout inflatable paddle board is an affordable and fun recreational paddle board for the whole family. The board offers great stability, making it easy to use and to hold your balance on while learning to use the board.

At 17.5 pounds this board is light as a feather and can be used by both young and smaller riders. It provides a good level of maneuverability and control, making it ideal for beginners. The included accessories are of good quality and the paddle is useful for exploring different environments.

Ultimately, the Roc Scout is a great beginner paddle board package that gets riders used to the feel of being out on the water and allows them the opportunity to practice traveling on the water without needing too much experience balancing.

Accessories

The Roc Scout package includes various accessories that go with the Scout paddle board. A Roc 3 piece adjustable aluminum paddle, a safety leash, a pump and a Roc travel bag are all part of the package and are provided with the Scout board. Roc has also included a waterproof bag for your convenience. This can be used to store other paddle accessories or small valuables such as keys and wallets.

• Paddle: The Roc adjustable 3 piece paddle is made out of aluminum and has a lightweight design that makes it easy to maneuver the board on the water. The paddle is made to float for a while, however not indefinitely as, the paddle will sink once inundated with water. The paddle itself won’t impress on the performance side of things, but it is perfectly functional for recreational use.
• Leash: Roc provides a basic standard safety leash that is relatively comfortable for the rider.
• Pump: With only a single chamber the Roc manual pump lacks output and it takes quite a long time to pump up the board by hand. It usually takes up to 15 minutes to fully inflate the board. Nevertheless, it is a pretty standard pump that will get the job done…eventually.
• Backpack: The Roc travel bag is a standard inflatable paddle board travel bag that is spacious and can easily fit the board and accessories within it. It is rugged and comfortable due to the high-quality materials used in the bag’s construction. 

Stability

The Roc Scout inflatable SUP board offers slightly more stability than the Roc Explorer and for this reason, we consider this paddle board to be better suited for beginners. This extra stability is attributed to the Scout board being one inch thicker than the Explorer board as this small change significantly changes the board’s feel in the water. The Scout offers riders support with their balance making it great for learning paddle board techniques as well as practicing paddle yoga.

Maneuverability

This board offers a very basic level of maneuverability and it’s great for getting from point A to point B. The tri-fin set up provides satisfactory traction and the increased stability helps paddlers make controlled and stable changes to the board’s direction.

That said, due to the Scout’s dimensions the board suffers from increased hydrodynamic drag and it is therefore challenging for riders to accelerate to speed. As such, this is very much an entry level board  intended for recreational use and not for competition. Portability

The Roc Scout inflatable paddle board is extremely lightweight and easy to transport. At a mere 17.5 pounds this board is perfect for young riders as well as weaker paddlers, looking for a lighter board for ease of handling. Otherwise, the only negative in terms of portability is the fact that only one carry handle is provided at the center of the board.

The board is lacking nose and tail handles, making it difficult to handle. Finally, the board comes with a comfortable travel bag that makes transporting the board and associated accessories very convenient.

Price/Quality Ratio

The Roc Scout is a very affordable paddle board and is considered to be a lower budget board for good reason. The materials and construction of the board as well as the included accessories provide a comprehensive all-round paddle board package. However, it might be a stretch to call this board competitively priced based on its quality. 

Additionally, Roc only provides a basic 1-year manufacturing warranty for the Roc Scout.

Do we recommend it?

We recommend the Roc Scout for the whole family. The board is great for riders looking for a stable, comfortable and enjoyable recreational paddle boarding experience in flat water conditions.
