The Explorer also provides a sufficient amount of maneuverability and portability, however both these categories could be improved with a few small alterations, such as the removal of the side fins and providing handles at the nose and tail of the board.

Accessories

The Roc Explorer package provides many accessories that compliment the Explorer paddle board. This includes the Roc adjustable 3 piece paddle, a safety leash and handy waterproof bag for small essentials such as phones, keys and wallets. Also included is a manual hand pump and a big, standard quality travel bag that contains the inflatable paddle board along with all the accessories.

  • Paddle: The Roc adjustable 3 piece paddle is made out of aluminum and has an innovative design that makes it easy to maneuver the board on the water. The paddle is made to float for a while, however not indefinitely as, the paddle will sink once inundated with water.
  • Leash: Roc provides a very basic standard safety leash that is relatively comfortable for the rider.
  • Pump: The Roc manual pump is not very powerful and it takes quite a long time to pump up the board by hand. It normally takes up to 15 minutes to fully inflate the board. That said, it is a pretty standard pump that will get the job done.
  • Backpack: The Roc travel bag is a standard inflatable paddle board travel bag that is spacious and can easily fit the board and accessories within it. It is rugged and comfortable due to the high quality materials used in the bags construction.

Stability

The stability of the Roc Explorer is what makes it a great all-round recreational paddle board. The board shape and design makes it extremely easy for riders to maintain their balance and even use the board for paddle board yoga. The rounded, short nose helps to give more surface area at the front of the board in order to balance it out when wind picks up. The stability also makes the Roc Explorer ideal for beginners to the sport of paddle boarding as the board provides a smaller learning curve in regards to balance.

Maneuverability

The Roc Explorer offers a decent level of maneuverability. The fin set up allows for quick alterations to directions as well as slow, stable and controlled complete turns. The board isn’t best suited for picking up speed as the short length and shape increases the hydrodynamic drag produced by the paddle board.

In the context of being a recreational board the Roc Explorer has sufficient maneuverability and versatility to perform as expected. However, if you’re a little more ambitious, it does not compare to more professional and high-end paddle boards.

Portability

With a weight of 17.5 pounds when inflated, the Roc Explorer paddle board is one of the lightest boards on the market. The light weight makes the board accessible to younger riders as well as riders looking for a board that is easy to carry. Nevertheless, the only handle of the board is in the center and for this reason the board can be awkward to transport at times. When not inflated, the board packs up nicely into the included travel bag, making it easy and comfortable in terms of portability.

Price/Quality Ratio

Taking into account the materials used and construction of the board, as well as the added accessories, it would be a fair assessment to say that the Roc Explorer is a fair and affordable package. The board is certainly of good quality, however it would be difficult to label the price as competitive. Additionally, Roc only provides a basic 1 year manufacturing warranty for the Roc Explorer.

Optional Accessories from Roc

  • Roc manual pump
  • Roc electric air pump
  • Roc adjustable 3 piece paddle
  • Roc replacement fin
  • Roc safety leash
  • Roc backpack
  • Roc comfort cushion seat

Do we recommend it?

We recommend the Roc Explorer for paddleboarders of any level who want a stable and enjoyable board that will allow them to play, fish and do yoga in ideal water conditions. The Roc Explorer provides an easy and enjoyable paddle boarding experience that is accessible to anybody. Overall, this is a great entry-level inflatable paddle board for paddlers looking for a stable and reliable paddleboard. Having said this, more experienced paddlers will appreciate longer boards.
