Best Travel SUP

Many paddlers from every skill level were taken aback by the updated iRocker All-Around 10′ Ultra inflatable paddle board. This package arrives in a bag that seems half the size of an adult board. Everything about it screams portability.

While that made us question what compromises in performance were required to achieve this ultra compact design, we were relieved and impressed at the overall experience on the water.

To be clear, this is a stand up paddle board best suited for lighter paddlers under 5’10. The taller the paddler, the more skilled they need to be to cope with diminishing stability.

Another unique feature of this board is the included accessory bag and an electric pump (power source not included).

Given the design features and quality of the whole package, there’s a reasonable–but larger–price attached to this SUP board. More nomadic paddlers should give this option a long hard look for the value and improvement to their stand up experience it can provide.

Small Paddler’s Intuitive All-Rounder

The iRocker 10’ Ultra is the updated inflatable SUP that’s ideal for small paddlers who enjoy traveling to their destinations.

As a portable package, the bag is just awesome. Including one of the better electric pumps, there’s a convenience factor baked into the Ultra’s design that we’ve not really seen anywhere else.

The simple fact of being able to fold it horizontally before rolling is brilliant, and the twin fins and off-center middle handle shows purposeful and clever design.

It’s got robust construction and good performance that even beginners will appreciate too. It might not be the best inflatable paddle board out there, but this model from iRocker is one of those that deliver unquestionable value for its price.

To be sure, the surprising rigidity provides very good tracking and speed experience that was unexpected. Our shorter paddlers definitely found it more stable than our 5’11, 200 lb tester. For those over 5’8, a little more balance will be required to cope with lost stability.

10-foot boards are becoming more popular, and the compromises they make can potentially be too costly for an overall score. It’s only the paddle that demonstrates certain drawbacks.

A paddle with a whole shaft is always the best. Less movement between joints maximizes thrust. The travel-friendly paddle here breaks down into 4 pieces and those moving joints can be irritants. This isn’t by any means a deal-breaker though.

But this also limits how much you can shorten the shaft length. That means it won’t be ideal for sub-5-foot tall paddlers.

On the whole, the iRocker Ultra 10 has set the bar quite high for compact inflatable SUP boards, setting a trend for portability and performance we expect to see more brands try to imitate in the years to come.

Construction and Design

All-Around 10’ Ultra stands at, well, 10 feet tall, with 32″ deck width, 18.5″ tail width, and a thickness of 6″. It’s a travel-friendly inflatable paddle board with a planing hull and is made of three layers of PVC, with cross-thread drop-stitch construction. You can grab yours in three color variants, teal/lime, aqua/peach, and gray/pink/aqua.

PVC is well-known for its rigidity and ability to keep air-tight layering. And with three layers on board, this iRocker SUP comes with reinforcement and durability to keep up with more than just a handful of uses.

Its cross-thread drop-stitch core construction keeps its shape well, adding more rigidity and effectively improving your 10′ Ultra’s stability and responsiveness (we’ll go deep on that in a sec).

Like most inflatable stand-up paddle boards, this iRocker SUP has a soft rail and a 50/50 foil. It carries the volume equally on top and bottom, half the rail submerged in water and half on the surface. Soft rails also translate to better buoyancy but can sometimes affect your iRocker’s speed since pressure drag is typical.

The All Around 10′ Ultra has a moderate nose rocker and no tail rocker. That makes it plane nicely, rather than pushing water. You get additional stability at the front and speed at the back. The lack of tail kick also makes it glide more smoothly.

The excellent overall construction of the iRocker 10′ Ultra won’t disappoint you. The money you invest won’t go to waste after a couple of adventures, whether you’re out in the ocean or lake. Plus, it’s seam-sealed, so the tape adds both protection from leaks and provides reinforcement.

This board represents a continued evolution and development of iRocker boards that reflect and reaffirm how more serious brands will have to innovate in order to maintain market success.

Features

Let’s take a closer look at the valuable features iRocker All-Around 10′ Ultra has for you. Does it have the edge over its competitors? Will they prove useful or a total meh?

Bungee Cords and Mounts

Keep your cargo within reach with the bungee cords on both ends of the 10′ Ultra. You can secure additional items or drybags for longer expeditions. A couple of mounts at the deck and another next to the valve are also available. If you want to attach your action cam and other accessories, you can.

Grab Handles and D-Rings

Grab your iRocker 10′ Ultra by the nose, tail, or offset handle. Notice how it’s not centered but more angled on one side. Since this iSUP is for shorter paddlers (typically with shorter arms), it allows them to carry it without strain or hassle.

There’s certainly no shortage of D-rings here. Whether you want to attach a kayak seat or tag side-by-side with a friend, you can use these lash points.

Deck Pad

Another selling point is the split EVA deck pad of iRocker All-Around 10′ Ultra. Since there’s no material in the middle, it’s easier to fold it in half. It’s all about compactness without throwing functionality out the window.

The split deck pad is an innovative design.

The heat embossed deck pad of this iRocker paddle board provides good traction. Your feet will stay comfortable and won’t slip.

Twin Fins

iRocker 10’ Ultra comes with detachable 9” twin fins. These are smart-locked into place and are tethered, so even if they accidentally detach, you won’t lose them. Just ensure the cord’s properly locked!

The  No need for tools and screws like you would with a classic US fin box.

There is a lot of rake (the curvature) on them, which explains why this SUP tracks so straight. That doesn’t compromise maneuverability either, thanks to the boards compact length.

You won’t lose your detachable fins again!

Offset Full Valve

The offset valve of iRocker 10′ Ultra is pretty easy to use. Turn it clockwise to lock and counterclockwise to open. It’s got a water-tight seal, so your inflatable SUP won’t slowly deflate.

Accessories

The accessory pouch of this iRocker SUP contains its electric pump, tube, plug adapter, leash, stickers, and fins. It matches All-Around 10′ Ultra’s compactness without leaving the essentials behind.

The Pump

The iRocker Ultra’s 12V electric pump is great. It’s super compact and user-friendly. It can be used on lower volume items like some kayak seats. The PSI is adjustable and the auto button is a fire and forget option that works. It automatically stops once your iSUP reaches the proper PSi.

The Electric Pump needs a power source like the iRocker battery (It's sold separately).

There’s a small screen and setup buttons so your inflatable iRocker All-Around 10′ can inflate with the proper PSi and deflate in no time. There are two separate nozzles at the top, one for each. Remember that the right one is for deflating while the left is for inflating.

There’s a handle on the right side of the pump while the left hides the connected plug you can directly attach to your car.

If your car has no plug, you can use the included adapter to power the pump directly from a battery. That includes lithium or car batteries. Simply connect it to the built-in cord, clip it and it’s all set.

You can clip it to your battery if there’s no plug.

Parking is not always within just a few steps from the beach. This adapter will also allow you to bring a battery to the shore and ready your Ultra iSUP there, so you don’t have to carry it inflated from the parking lot.

We were lucky enough to have iRocker’s pretty sweet Pump Battery, which has a 12v socket.

Irocker All Around 10 Ultra Pump Battery

Because this compact iSUP doesn’t have as much volume, it actually won’t take too long to inflate using a good manual pump. The problem is, as soon as you bring that with, there’s a portability trade-off.

But for the overall convenience that the pump of iRocker Ultra delivers, there’s no beating the benefits compared to classic ones you’ll find with South Bay Hippocamp 11’6”. It’ll take roughly 12 minutes to get your iSUP ready for action, with 14-16 PSI onboard.

The Paddle

The paddle spans up to 87.4”-long with a blade dimension of 20″. The shaft collapses into four sections, plus the blade, another statement of this iRocker SUP’s portability. It’s a bit too long considering that this inflatable paddle board is for users under 5’5″. Even its shortest setup at 77″-long is still too much for paddlers under 5’2”.

Irocker All Around 10 Ultra Paddle

Construction-wise, the shaft is carbon-made, while the blade is nylon. This rigid combination does a decent job of transfering your paddling power into long-distance thrusts. As a general rule of thumb, the more rigid the material is, the better. Carbon ranks among the best with its 240 Gpa tensile strength.

But, because this paddle breaks down into 4 pieces plus the blade, there are moving parts. They don’t move too much, but there are 4 joints that contribute to an unwanted flexibility. It’s not so bad, but it’s the biggest, or most noticeable, compromise.

Leash

With a ten ft.-long coil leash, your inflatable paddle board won’t swim on its own in case you fall off.

This iRocker model already includes it in the package, unlike Aqua Marina 10’4” Vapor and Tower Yachtsman 10’4”, where you need to purchase it separately.

Performance

Let’s see if we can render iRocker 10′ Ultra’s performance the best inflatable paddle board within its domain.

Stability and Speed

This iRocker SUP has a volume of 298.5 L and a maximum weight capacity of 260 lbs. Given its only ten-foot-long inflatable paddle board, we expected it would only manage to carry kids, but it proved tough enough to have a 5’11 adult onboard. It is not for you if you’re a tall/heavy paddler. Bigger iSUPs of at least 11′ like Thurso Surf Waterwalker 11’  and iRocker Sport 11’ can endure more than 300 lbs. of weight without losing out stability.

iRocker 10’ Ultra is quite a stable iSUP.
iRocker 10’ Ultra is quite a stable iSUP.

Its rigid construction contributes to the stiffness of the shape, and the twin fin setup balances any pressure drag under your iRocker SUP, ultimately keeping it stable. The moderate nose rocker stabilizes 10’ Ultra when facing waves, while the flat tail ensures it sails smoothly.

However, the soft rails are a drag magnet. The 50/50 foil will require more effort paddling since half of your inflatable paddle board is in direct contact with pressure, affecting its overall speed. The planing hull is typical for iSUPs and doesn’t cut through the water to max out speed. Still, we didn’t have any trouble paddling this iRocker SUP.

But for an all-around iSUP, the iRocker 10′ Ultra is a decent model. It’s a stable option for its target paddlers.

Tracking

Don’t expect that it can go head-on with longboards regarding tracking. Of course, there’s a noticeable difference between Ultra 10’ and 12-footers like Gili Meno 12’6”. But compared to Bluefin Cruise 10’8” and Surfstar Flight 11’6”, this iRocker model can cruise a straight line better.

With the twin fin setup, Ultra 10′ tends to pivot side-to-side. Combined with the fact that they’re relatively small, movements can quickly shift your iSUP. It’s not the best inflatable paddle board if you value excellent tracking, but–as an all-around, not a touring board–it’s not supposed to.

Maneuverability

Now, this is where the fins show off their functionality. It’s easy to maneuver this iRocker SUP. Making turns is a piece of cake, with the small twin fins acting as pivots. Although there’s no tail rocker to make it all way better, The 10′ Ultra is very responsive since it’s a small inflatable SUP.

So whether you’re making your way through a maze of mangroves or simply honing your skills doing laps at the lake, iRocker 10’ Ultra is probably the best inflatable paddle board for maneuverability for anyone under 5’5”.

Portability

The boxy carry bag of All Around 10′ Ultra has all the features you need to keep your inflatable SUP organized. It has five pockets, a roomy space for everything else, and a dedicated paddle pocket. A criss-cross bungee tie is also available so you can lash items outside. The main compartment has a clamshell-inspired opening via a 2-way zip, or you can opt for the roll-top closure, so ease of use is no problem.

iRocker enhanced the bag’s quality with reinforced fabric to ensure it lasts for a long time. They also added thicker cushioning at the shoulders straps and back to give you a comfortable carrying experience.

The carrying bag is roomy, well organized, and comfortable to carry.

This is a crazy small bag at only 10” x 16” x 21” compared to inflatable SUPs just a few inches bigger, like Red Paddle’s Ride 10’6”. And at roughly 33 lbs., it can be your carry-on and will fit inside the overhead cabin (not all airlines will accept it. That’s a significant bonus for all avid travelers and light-packing outdoor enthusiasts!

Price/Quality Ratio

It’s not easy finding the best inflatable paddle board. While it has some limitations specific to the size of the paddler, the iRocker All-Around 10′ Ultra is awesome. It’s amazing that such a compact board can perform the way it does while being so travel-friendly. Rigid build, decent stability, tracking, and maneuverability is similar to premium 11-foot boards.

It prioritizes the paddler’s ease of use with the time-saving electric pump included in the package. Staying lightweight is a must, especially for smaller paddlers under 5’5″. The portability of this iRocker SUP is a compelling selling point for avid travelers hopping from trains and plains and everything in between.

The overall value the Ultra gives to its target paddlers is worth the tag it comes with.

Do we recommend it?

Definitely.

It’s a beginner-friendly option but can still serve you with its good build as you progress. It’s also complete with literally everything you need for a fun time paddling through the waters. The included electric pump–recommend getting the battery– and the lightweight and portable profile sets a high benchmark for compact boards.

Buy this inflatable SUP if:

  • You’re between 5’3’’ and 5’8”
  • Maneuverability is your top priority
  • Looking for a quality iSUP worth the price
  • Searching for a lightweight and super portable option
  • Want an e-pump instead of a manual one

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about iRocker All-Around 10' Ultra

Is iRocker a reputable company?

Sure.

iRocker is famous for its high-quality mid-priced boards. They offer a wide array of gear, especially inflatable paddle boards, for various purposes,  for every level of outdoor enthusiast.

How to roll up iRocker All-Around 10' Ultra?

Once you have completely deflated your iRocker iSUP, fold it in the middle vertically, from tail to nose. Then start rolling it from the nose, so any air left inside will be pushed out the valve.

Grab the strap and lay it flat before placing the rolled-up iSUP on top. Wrap it around, sneak the webbing through the tri-glide buckle and tighten it to keep it compressed. Put it inside the carrying bag, and you’re ready to go home.

Can you leave an iRocker SUP inflated?

Yes.

It won’t harm your All-Around 10′ Ultra to stay inflated if you plan to use it regularly. Besides, it’ll be a waste of time to inflate/deflate it every time (unless you take long intervals before hitting the waters or constantly traveling). It’ll lose some pressure with time, so make sure to top it off every once in a while. Especially when temperatures are warm.

What is the best inflatable SUP on the market?
