Great Adaptability

The Bixpy J-2 motor is a conversion kit that can be attached to kayaks, inflatable boats as well as paddle boards. With a Bixpy jet attached into the central fin box, and the battery powering it firmly attached under the aft bungee cords, it’s possible to cruise at 5-6 mph depending on wind and currents.

One notable feature that the Bixpy motor set has is the ability to go in reverse. On a paddle board, this has the noticeable effect of also turning the SUP slightly toward the left. When you know this, it results in better maneuvering in tight places like narrow rivers or canals.

The overall experience with the Bixpy jet on a paddle board is positive. The battery lasts a whole day essentially, and the jet motor itself is pretty lightweight, making it not too difficult to launch. Plugging in the battery after the SUP is in the water is also pretty safe and secure. Overall, a well-thought-out design that translates into a good paddle assist system.

A Reliable Electric SUP Motor Workhorse

A paddle assist with excellent construction that can adapt to various watercrafts, the Bixpy J-2 motor, an electric paddle board Kit, will provide the extra propulsion to upgrade your expeditions.

Speed-wise, you can speed along from 1.4 mph to 5/6 mph (without paddling) depending on your SUPs load, water current and wind. Bixpy jet is a handy backup when you need extra push if you’re not physically on point to paddle.

There’s a reverse option, too, to aid in maneuvering. When engaged in reverse, the board turns ever so slightly, back to the right.

Bixpy Jet J 2 Sup Reliable

Operating the wireless remote is also simple. You can speed up on 12 levels, three reverse speeds, and the on/off button. However, wearing like a watch isn’t quite so comfortable

The build and construction of the motor and battery are pretty high quality. Everything is waterproof and buoyant. We also love the magnetic kill switch, even if it takes getting used to. It gets tangled in the leash coil, for example.

Bixpy Jet J 2 Leash Coil

Lightweight on its own, the motor alone doesn’t make getting into the water any more difficult than a normal fin would. Getting the battery on and connected requires a bit more logic though.

From the shore, it made sense for us to flip the sup on its head and connect the battery by the waterline. We pulled the SUP out to deeper waters with the battery sitting by the motor. At knee-deep water, we then flipped the paddle board over again and fastened the battery with the aft cargo chords.

Bixpy Jet J 2 Lightweight

Once we figured out the best way to launch, it became pretty easy with each session.

This Bixpy jet is not as powerful as the scuba jet conversion kit. But its thrust and battery time is a great advantage for longer trips and for safety too.

The Bixpy Motor Package

Once you open your Bixpy J-2 electric SUP motor package, the first thing that will welcome you is a user’s manual. Please read through it for your safety and make installing your Bixpy jet easier. Under the manual are the battery pack, motor, wireless remote, kill switch, and charger. It also comes with a 5mL tube of dielectric grease, a Bixpy sticker, some knots and bolts for the adapter, and an Allen key.

However, remember that you need to purchase the fin adapter separately for around $30. They’re available in three options, so you can choose one that suits your SUP’s fin box type. Whether you have a flip-lock, US fin box, or slip-lock, there’s an adapter.

Construction and Design

With a low-profile design and high-quality construction, the Bixpy jet can take a licking if running aground on occasion. The engine is corrosion-resistant stainless steel (SS), while the heat sink is aircraft-grade anodized aluminum. Still, remember to rinse after use in, especially, salt water.

The plastic parts of the Bixpy motor are ABS/polycarbonate or glass-filled nylon and also come with UV resistance. Its battery pack has an airtight seal to protect it from water damage. The compactness makes it portable and allows it to fit in most cargo spaces.

Both the motor and battery pack come with tough construction.

Every piece of this Bixpy jet kit is buoyant too. Even if they end up in the water, it’ll be easy to spot and get them back.

Installation

Installing the J-2 Bixpy motor is pretty straightforward. After choosing the correct SUP fin box adapter, grab the engine, get the cable out of the way and place your selected adapter. Remember that the back of the fin adapter must face the same direction as the shroud of your Bixpy jet.

Slide the adapter to the motor and secure it using the knots and bolts with the package. Don’t put too much pressure while tightening the screws. You can use a small wrench and a Philip’s screwdriver to secure the four bolts and screws.

After rigging the Bixpy jet to the adapter, attach it to your fin box like how you usually would install your center fin. After securing it in place, your paddle board is good to go as a motorized SUP.

The Outboard battery can safely sit in your SUP’s rear bungees. Put some dielectric grease on the cable’s receiving end before plugging it into the leftmost port of the battery pack. Use the included tube of electrical grease to prevent corrossion at the connection points.

Installation was a no-brainer while we were testing it out both in medium SUP Nixy Newport G4 10’6” and the touring Bluefin Sprint Carbon 14’.

Attach the magnetic kill switch to the battery, lash it to your ankle, and wear the wireless remote on your wrist before starting your adventure.

The self-inflating Sipa Smart is a fully electric option, with its built-in motor and pump. But the Bixpy motor can be used on boats and kayaks, whereas the Sipa is a paddle board only.

Ease of Use

Now that you have your motorized paddle board in the water hop on deck and turn on your Bixpy motor using the wireless remote. In the remote, there are three buttons- speed up, reverse, and on/off. You can amp up the speed 12 times while the reverse has three speed levels. Use the Velcro strap to wear it on your wrist or try to attach it to the paddle.

There’s also a magnetic kill switch connected to the battery with a leash you can lash in your ankle. It will easily detach and turn off the motor if ever you fall into the water. Worrying about hitting the propeller or your electric SUP swimming away won’t be a problem.

The kill switch keeps you safe and your SUP from speeding away.

This Bixpy motor will give you the assistance you need if you’re not capable of paddling in headwinds or get caught out in stubborn currents.

With just a few clicks, you cut down the effort you exert. And for us who love staying in the waters for hours on end, it’s a safety option when fatigue strikes.

While auto-cruising, you have your hands free to deal with other things like tying knots, fixing your fishing pole, or enjoying a beverage under the sun.

Overall, controlling the Bixpy J-2 electric SUP motor is a walk in the park. Need to dash from point A to B? Go full speed in a few clicks. Want to hover in the same place after throwing in your line? Stay at the lowest setting. Need to back up your electric paddle board after encountering an obstruction? Reverse. You can kick back and stay sky hooked in place.

Speed

Surprisingly fast for a small unit, this paddle board motor from Bixpy can cruise at 5-6 mph at full speed, depending on weather and water condition. It’s not as fast as Onean Manta running at 10 mph, but you’ll notice the significant difference in your SUP’s speed.

At full speed while paddling, it’s possible to gain speeds up to around 10 mph. Not bad.

Maneuverability

Now, we appreciate that there’s a reverse option in this Bixpy jet, and you can choose from three speed levels. It’s a handy feature you can take advantage of when maneuvering sharp turns. It’s also convenient if you bump into a dead end and need to backpaddle.

Remember, your SUP paddle will still dictate your electric paddle board’s direction. It’s also challenging to make sharp turns when your Bixpy motor is on full speed, so slowing down is the most effective way to approach curves.

Run and Charge Time

Charge for five hours to fully power up the 25.2V lithium-ion battery for 80 mins. to 12 hours of use depending on speed, it’s an excellent electric SUP motor that you can count on whether you need to rush back to the shore or need a bit of extra push for your long-distance adventure. That’s a better trade-off than what you’ll experience with JOBE E-Duna with 8 hr. charge time and 3 hr. run time.

Bixpy Jet J 2 Run And Charging Time

After testing it on the lowest speed setting in pretty calm waters, the battery surprisingly lasted close to the advertised 12 hours. And if you try to save some power by turning off the engine occasionally, you can have Bixpy J-2 as a backup for almost the whole day. At full speed, you can run back to the safety of the coast for 80 mins. straight. That reliability is appreciated, especially when you’re far out and extreme weather conditions start to smash your SUP.

The Bixpy Motor Isn’t Silent

The motor isn’t silent, especially when on full throttle. Still, for SUP fishing, going hands free and trolling at lower speeds shouldn’t scare off the fish.

Portability

At only 9 lbs., this compact paddle board electric motor from Bixpy is a lightweight accessory you can easily pack up and carry anywhere you go. It’s lighter than Aqua Marina at 11.24 lbs. and only a needle heavier than E-propulsion Vaquita at 8.8 lbs.

Price/Quality Ratio

For around $1,200, plus thirty bucks for the SUP fin adapter you need, Bixpy J-2 Electric Paddle Board Kit is no small investment, but it’s a reasonably-priced motor assist. It’s pretty easy to install and use, and the battery lasts a long time, 12 hrs. max. If you have a kayak, there are also adapters to help you upgrade your experience.

Performance-wise, it’s fast at 5/6 mph on max and allows you to maneuver your watercraft more easily with its 3-level reverse function. This Bixpy jet kit is very lightweight and portable too. Not to mention, your safety is one of the utmost priorities with the kill switch on standby.

If you’re searching for a heavy-duty and reliable motor assist for your kayak or SUP, the Bixpy J-2 electric SUP motor is a versatile engine worth every penny.

Found this review super helpful/informative. My only comment would be that people shouldn’t use stuff like this as a “backup plan” or “safety measure” right? I wouldn’t want people paddling out way farther than they’re capable of and relying on the Bixpy to get them home. Sounds like a recipe for disaster and shouldn’t really be encouraged.
