Timber Ridge Wagon

There are countless positive reviews on the Timber Ridge folding beach wagon, and we can see why. This relatively expensive cart can justify its hefty price tag with the hi-tech construction that is bound to last you at least a couple of years. The 600 Denier Polyester and a steel frame is nothing new, yet the quality of it is what makes it unique.

You can roll up to 150 pounds on the hard surface and around 110 pounds on the sand, which makes it an all-around wagon by definition. The telescoping handles make it suitable for every height and age category, while the large and rugged wheels ensure long-lasting durability.

You have got plenty of room to store your items, meaning that there’s no need to compromise on what you bring and leave at home.

The Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON is a large-capacity folding cart designed for a variety of uses. With relatively large rotating front wheels and fixed rear wheels, it pulls through most terrains. For this reason, it’s a popular choice for a beach wagon.

If you’re looking for a collapsible wagon primarily for the beach, this is probably not for you. But it can haul various items when you are camping, doing your groceries, gardening, or holding an outdoor event–like all utility wagons it serves as a decent ad hoc beverage bar.

Folding or collapsible carts have become quite popular and are used a lot. They help us save effort and time when carrying grocery items or outdoor gear. Instead of making multiple trips when transporting stuff, a collapsible wagon lets us do the job in a single journey and folds easily up into the trunk or garage.

There aren’t too many useful features, truth be known, but some smart designs separate the few good ones from the mediocre models.

Knowing and finding the right collapsible cart for your everyday needs can help you save effort, time, and money in the long run. But anecdotes of cheap folding wagons keep appearing in customer reviews. Sometimes it’s due to people trying to haul too much weight.

Overview

Indeed, a wagon is a sound investment nowadays for everything from gardening, going to the beach or just going for a stroll with the kids. That is, as long as it does the job right.

The Timber Ridge, as far as its price and its ability to survive different uses go, is a very good collapsible wagon. It carries a decent amount of weight, folds easily and pulls alright too. But not so much in sand, and especially not with more than 130 lbs of cargo.

While that limits this to a kid, some beverages and some gear only, its strength lies in its utility around the house or from the car to the park. The Ironwood does pretty well as a shopping wagon for trips to Home Depot too.

This cart has a quad-fold design. It opens and closes in a few seconds. When folded, it has a compact profile that can fit in any storage space. It also comes with a carry bag so that you can store it properly when not in use.

The frame of this wagon is made of heavy-duty steel with powder coating. Meanwhile, the basket is made of durable dobby polyester fabric. The basket is spacious enough to carry huge items, such as bodyboards and coolers.

Additionally, the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD wagon has side pockets for storing small items like binoculars and water bottles or selfie sticks. It also features cup holders where you can place your drinks while transporting your stuff.

Let’s dive in to learn more about the features, pros, and cons of this folding wagon!

Features

This wagon features a patented, quad-fold design. It opens and folds in seconds, so you can use and store it quickly.

The Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON is built with an extra sturdy steel frame. While it weighs almost 25 pounds because of the sturdy frame, it’s still pretty easy to move about both in trolley mode because of the form when folded up as well as spread out in full wagon action.

With powder coating, the frame has a reinforced, heavy-duty build that seems like it does a pretty decent job of resisting corrosion. Just remember not to collapse it and keep it closed when wet or moist.

Meanwhile, the basket is made of a combination of 600 shadow embossed and 840 velocity polyester dobby fabric, which won’t easily rot–but again let it dry before packing it away. This polyester allows for pretty simple wipe-down cleaning that’ll do the job most of the time.

Further, this wagon has four large plastic wheels. The two front wheels rotate 360 degrees, while the two rear wheels have a fixed position. With a diameter of 8” each, these wheels are stable on most terrains, particularly hard surfaces like gravel.

This cart is a large-capacity wagon that helps you carry many items. It can carry up to 150 lbs of stuff on hard surfaces and about 100 lbs on sandy terrains. Again, this is where a lot of people go wrong with these collapsible carts, expecting them to haul serious weight. They’re not built for that.

Something like the Sekey Classic folding beach wagon can lift and pull 265 lbs and is a better bet if needing to haul some serious weight.

With built-in storage pockets on each side, the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON also allows you to organize small items and other essentials easily. Moreover, it has two cup holders for storing your beverages.

This cart comes with a telescoping handle. With this adjustable handle, any person of any size can drag the wagon pretty well on different surfaces. On concrete or asphalt it’s no problem with cargo up to 130 lbs. Anything more than that, or on trickier terrain like forested areas or sand, it’ll be less than enjoyable and you should not be surprised if the wheels give up.

When this folding cart is not in use, you can collapse it by removing the inner panel, pull the center handle until the wheels roll into a cocoon-like position. Strap the frame together and cover the top with the included polyester head cover.

It stands very solidly on its own and wheels around quite easily too. Moving it around the garage or basement and storing it in a corner is the thing to do. Like that, when not using Timber Ridge’s Ironwood, the best thing about it is that it stays out of the way.

What we like

One of the best features of the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON is its large capacity. You can easily haul large and small items in a single trip, whether in your garden, a campground, or on your journey back home from the grocery store.

At best, this cart can carry up to 150 lbs of load. You can get away with it over even, concrete, but press this capacity too much and the wheels will disappoint you. Transport large outdoor items, such as beach chairs, bodyboards, and coolers.

Thanks to the built-in storage pockets on the sides, it is easy to organize your stuff using this wagon. These pockets are suitable for small items and valuables, such as cellphones, IDs, and sunscreen.

The Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON also has separate compartments for storing drinks, so you can have your favorite beverage within reach while moving your stuff.

Another commendable feature of this cart’s basket is the heavy-duty material. The dobby polyester fabric can withstand abuses and heavy use over the years. This polyester is also easy to cleean using a damp cloth after a day out.

This wagon’s frame is also pretty durable and built to last. It is made of heavy-duty steel with a powder coating that can withstand a fairly decent test of time. We’ve used it to move a lot of gear around, including transport of 2 paddle boards at a time or 10 scuba diving fins. No worries.

While the huge wheels of the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON are only made of plastic, they have a pretty good turning radius. This quality comes in handy when you are transporting a heavier load. They also pull relatively smoothly through hard terrains like asphalt.

Each wheel has a diameter of 8”, which is large enough to pull through most terrains, especially with a light load. It also helps that the front wheels rotate 360 degrees, while the rear wheels are fixed.

Of course, we also like how easy this wagon is to assemble and store. The quad-fold design lets you open and close it instantly. When folded and packed in the carry bag, it has a compact profile that can fit in any storage compartment. You can quickly put this folding cart in your car if you are traveling.

What we don’t like

While we appreciate the relatively huge size of the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON’s wheels, their material is quite an issue. They are only made of hollow plastic, which dents and breaks easily if the weight capacity is exceeded while pulling the collapsible cart over rougher surfaces.

Many users have complained about the wheels cracking after only a few months of use. Some even had models with wheels splitting entirely in half. Again, the likely cause is too much weight.

Further, this cart is not built for sandy beaches. It does not pull through soft sand. The rear wheels barely turn and simply sink into the sand in some cases.

If you are only carrying a light load, it is still possible to use the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON to traverse the beach to get to the water. However, only a few of the better beach wagons are really designed for this purpose. The MacSports model found in that section is one good example.

Note that the basket made of dobby polyester fabric is also not machine washable. If it gets too dirty that a damp cloth cannot do the work, you cannot throw it in the washer. But a combination of dishwashing soap and baking powder will often do the trick.

Conclusion

This folding wagon is best used for carrying large items for camping, gardening, and outdoor events. It can also help haul light loads from your car to a sandy beach. But it shines on steadier, smoother surfaces.

With wheels made of hollow plastic, the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON is ideal for hard surfaces and easy terrains. For everyday use, it is suitable for grocery shopping.

The best features of this wagon include its compact profile that allows for easy storage and quad-fold design that allows for quick assembly. The side pockets and cup holders are also helpful.

This wagon is a decent choice if you are looking for a handy folding cart that meets the bare minimum expectations for hauling items outdoors.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best large-capacity Timber Ridge folding wagon?

Today, we consider the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON as the best large-capacity folding wagon from Timber Ridge. It can carry a load of up to 150 lbs decently on hard surfaces and easy terrains without being difficult to pull.

Learn more about the specifications of this wagon in our latest in-depth review here. You may also check out our latest buyer’s guide to learn more about other models.

What do you look for in a folding wagon?

A durable and reliable folding wagon is a good long-term investment. As such, it is essential to know what factors to consider when buying one. The most crucial factors include depth, materials, weight capacity, and wheels.

Depth and weight capacity go together. If you need a wagon to haul large items, such as beach and camping gear, you need a basket with a depth of at least 9” and a weight capacity of at least 150 lbs. Some good examples are the MacSports WAGON CLASSIC and the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON.

When it comes to materials, it is vital to look for lightweight yet heavy-duty ones. For the frame, aluminum is quite a good choice. Steel remains the best choice, though a little bit heavier than aluminum. Meanwhile, nylon and polyester are the most common materials used. Both materials are heavy-duty and easy to clean.

For the wheels, rubber is preferable over plastic. Large rubber wheels fare better in most terrains, especially rough ones.

What are the tires of the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON made of?

The Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON wheels are only made of plastic. The two front wheels rotate while the two back wheels have a fixed position. Unfortunately, they cannot be replaced with inflatable or rubber wheels for improved performance.

The good thing about these tires is that they are lightweight. However, they have difficulties pulling through the sand. They also become harder to maneuver when the load becomes heavier.

Can kids ride in a folding wagon?

While kids can ride heavy-duty and large-capacity wagons like the Sekey Classic Folding Wagon and the Timber Ridge IRONWOOD ALL TERRAIN WAGON, it is not recommended due to safety reasons. These wagons are not built for transporting kids.

The good news is that there are carts dedicated to carrying kids, especially at the beach.
