Construction

Sea to Summit Pocket Shower is a straightforward model. There is nothing extraordinary on the outside, and it comes with a low-profile look in black color.

Technically, the material is 70D nylon. It’s got high tear resistance while staying lightweight. With the white internal polyurethane coating, you get a bright interior to see inside your camp shower. It’s a great feature making it easier to spot any dirt that may clog the showerhead. Besides, PU is excellent protection from abrasion and why water stays within the bag (it’s the waterproof magician at play). Couple that with fully-taped seams. You’re sure that you can leave it for ages and there will still be water once you come back. Use it as a drybag proxy and keep your items safe and dry.

The black color of this Sea to Summit camp shower also allows good heat absorption from the sun. Although it’s not always you’ll find a spot to hang where the sun directly hits, you can still enjoy a warm shower after leaving it exposed for a few hours.

If you want peace of mind loading your portable shower and leaving it lying flat for effortless solar warming, we recommend RISEPRO 20L Solar Portable Shower and Advanced Elements Summer Shower. Both have secured water inlets. Leaking won’t be a problem.

We came across some complaints that the shower bag starts to lose its waterproofness over time. Though it might be true, it’s true for almost any waterproof gear since coatings like DWR and PU tend to wear out, especially with regular washing. But as for Sea to Summit Pocket Shower, the overall construction will last long enough to serve you with satisfaction. Your investment won’t be a regrettable one.

Not your type of portable shower? Our main guide has alternative models you can choose from.

Features

This camp shower from Sea to Summit is pretty featureless. There’s no mesh pocket outside for your small toiletries like in Advanced Elements Summer Shower and RISEPRO 20L Solar Portable Shower. The thermometer is also missing, so tracking water temps can be tricky. It’s basically a dry bag with a nozzle.

Handle and Water Inlet

With the classic roll-top drybag design, Sea to Summit Pocket Shower’s water inlet and handle work hand in hand. Loading it up was pretty breezy since the opening is wide. But on the same note, not that secure.

This camp shower doesn’t have a water-tight screw lid like in Advanced Elements Summer Shower and RISEPRO 20L Solar Portable Shower. You can’t leave it lying flat when it’s got water inside. Hanging is a must with its lack of a lid.

Sea to Summit Pocket Shower has a quick-release buckle. You can snug it on a branch without any trouble. If you need to rig it up higher, there’s a cord included in the package. Use it on the D-rings or attach it to a carabiner, throw it over your hanging point and tie it securely.

It's a bit time-consuming setting it up, but a versatile option for various outdoor settings.

Now, we know how tiring wilderness can be. If you want an effortless way to wash all the dirt off without putting additional effort, Ivation Portable Camping Shower and Geyser System are good alternatives. These battery-powered models are time and stress-savers.

Showerhead

The showerhead is directly attached to the shower bag itself. Sure, you won’t have trouble with a kinky hose, but you can’t redirect water flow. The only option is to stand under this camp shower and adjust to where you want the water to hit.

The hose-less showerhead means no close-to-body rinsing.

Remember, this camp shower from Sea to Summit is gravity-dependent. These types are typically limited in design and features to keep them lightweight. If you want to enjoy the benefits of a handheld showerhead without much additional heaviness, check out Coleman Portable Shower.

If that didn’t impress you, one of these portable showers will.

Portability

One of the selling points of this Sea to Summit camp shower is its stowaway pocket. It’s easier to keep it safe, especially since the fabric is quite thin. Plus, it’s only roughly 5.5″ x 3.25″ x 3″. It won’t take much space, and spot it quickly inside your hiking backpack.

The stowaway bag makes this camp shower super portable.

You’ll also notice there are various lash points. One on each side for carabiner attachment and a pass-through handle at the back for compression straps. You can carry and enjoy its benefits while saving room in your backpack! A drain hole is also present to help dry out your Sea to Summit Pocket Shower.

At only 5.25 ounces, this camp shower is one of the lightest, most compact, and packable. It’s the ideal shower bag for those who can’t deal with dragging additional weight like you would with features-packed ones like Mr. Heater F235350 BOSS-XCW20 Shower System at 22 lbs.-heavy. However, Ivation had found a reasonable trade-off when it gave up the bag in exchange for a pump from a direct water source at only 1.81 lbs.

Capacity and Ease of Use

Though a little smaller than average portable showers, Sea to Summit Pocket Shower’s 10-liter capacity is surprisingly enough for good enough wash. Its nozzle comes with the just-right amount of pores, so every drop counts. The twist-to-open shower head allows easy adjustment of water flow. There’s also a limit line to help you identify its maximum threshold.

With an expected 7-8 minutes of nonstop stream, this camp shower gives you enough supply to rinse off post-hike or after a beach day. And if you’re a pro in the outdoors, it’ll last longer with intelligent use.

Remember, there’s no hose. You can’t maneuver the showerhead around. There’s only one way to wash yourself- standing directly under the nozzle. It can be challenging, but it gets the job done pretty well.

If you think you need more water than 10 liters, bigger models like Advanced Elements, Coleman Solar, and RISEPRO Solar Portable shower have twice the capacity.

Summary

Sea to Summit Pocket Shower lives up to its name. Lightweight, compact and packable. For roughly $35, you enjoy the perks of durability that won’t give up after a handful of uses.

You can enjoy a warm wash while hiking or camping without breaking your bank. Moreover, this camp shower morphs into a drybag when empty. Though it’s only got a 10-liter capacity, the design of its nozzle helps conserve water. With conscious use, enjoy more than 7 minutes of nonstop stream.

Setting it up can be a bit of a pain. Its roll-top inlet isn’t the most secure. But it’s a deal worth the price for its overall construction, packability, and ease of use. Maybe your only option is to stand directly under the nozzle. It still gets the job done without disposable quality you’ll usually find in sub-twenty alternatives.

Buy this portable shower if:

  • You’re an avid Sea to Summit fan
  • Want a camp shower that doubles as a drybag
  • Need a packable but reliable portable shower
