16 Best Heated Socks of 2023

We’ve all been there –  as soon as the weather gets colder, we put on two pairs of socks just to keep our feet warm. Heated socks eliminate this need. Designed to generate heat when there isn’t nearly enough of it, they can be used as ski socks, or for hiking and camping without having to pack countless pairs of socks with you.

You can wear heated socks around the house too – they’re a perfect addition to your loungewear. Adjust the warmth level of your socks to the one that feels the most comfortable, grab a cup of hot tea, and you’re all set to get cozy by the fireplace.

Before you go ahead and purchase a pair or two for yourself, consider this:

  • The material heated socks are made from (wool, cotton, polyester)
  • The battery power heated socks have (220 mAh – 4000 mAh)
  • The warmth heated socks provide
  • The control you have over their warmth (built-in or remote)
  • The fit heated socks offer

Once you settle on the features that matter to you the most, you can browse through our guide containing the best heated socks on the market.

The Top 7 Heated Socks in 2023

All the Heated Socks We've tested

Most Comfortable

ActionHeat heated socks have proven popular because of their price and their general specs.

Powered by AA batteries, the socks promise 130°F. But that’s both somewhat doubtful and will lead to much shorter battery life. They have an on/off switch and seem to have a relatively stable temperature setting.

What they can do is stave off the bitter cold, allowing you to stay in winter settings for a around 3 hours. That makes these interesting for all sorts of activities from late-season football games to ice-fishing.

Easy to wash and care for, ActionHeat heated socks are a good pair of socks to try if you’re new to heated socks. Wash them by hand, line dry them, and you’ll be able to wear them for quite some time.

Even though professional athletes aren’t the primary target audience of Terramar heated socks, these socks work well as  entry-level ski socks for beginner skiers, and as winter socks for homebodies.

Offering good warmth to the area that needs it most, – toes – they are a good choice for first-time heated socks buyers who are tired of putting on several pairs of socks to prevent their feet from freezing.

The carbon-ceramic heating element is encapsulated in a padded area that doesn’t interfere with comfort while walking. It’s reliable, energy-efficient, and relatively long-lasting.

The construction of the socks is soft and snug – the inside has a springy feel to it and the cuff is stretchy enough to prevent heat from escaping. And while it’s not recommended to throw Terramar socks in the washing machine, you can get away with hand washing them from time to time to keep them looking and feeling fresh.

Specs & Features

  • Material: 71% Acrylic, 19% Polyester, 10% Wool

PBOX Electric Heated Socks

Initially created for fishermen navigating icy-cold waters of the Northern Atlantic ocean, Turtle Fur Lectra is the exemplary pair of heated socks that is guaranteed to keep your feet warm.

Whether you decide to wear them on your next camping trip or lounge around the house in them, rest assured they’ll deliver on their promise.

The manufacturer incorporated a  battery pouch and wires into the socks that work together to provide sufficient warmth to your feet. This doesn’t mean, however, that wires heat up.

The heating is concentrated mainly in the toe area – the place that tends to get cold first. The extra-wide reinforced cuffs, therefore, are an essential part of the socks’ construction – they help maintain that toes warmth without any heat escaping the area. And isn’t that exactly what you need from a high-quality pair of heated socks?

Specs & Features

  • Material: Wool Blend (17% Wool)
  • Heat Settings: One (6-8 hours)

Functional and aesthetically-pleasing? That’s what Begleri winter heated socks are all about.

Made from superb-quality combed cotton, they are allegedly some of the most breathable, snug, and water-resistant (great for those looking for the water-resistance of a conventional pair of waterproof socks, with the added perk of prolonged heating) heated socks on the market. This makes them ideal for all kinds of outdoor sports and indoor activities – no compromises have to be made when wearing them.

Another peculiar feature of these socks is the length of the heating time. We’re talking about the whopping 19 (!) hours of warmth – that’s almost equivalent to a 24-hour day. What’s more, it doesn’t take more than 10 seconds for the heating mechanism to start working from the time you put the socks on.

The 2-year warranty from Begleri makes the purchase of these heated socks that much more appealing.

Specs & Features

  • Material: 92% Combed Cotton
  • Heat Settings: Low Heat & Green light (104-122℉, 18-19 hours), Medium Heat & Orange light (131-140℉, 11-12 hours), High Heat & Red light (140-150℉, 8-9 hours)

To control the amount of heat your feet get, consider looking into Global Vasion’s electric heated socks. Featuring three heat settings ranging from lukewarm to hot, they provide you with varied options of warmth that ensure comfortable wear all day long.

The 10-inch length doesn’t prevent the socks from providing warmth to your lower body. In fact, a good number of customers claim they use them as ski socks, and the socks help them stay warm when ice fishing in the winter.

The construction of the heated socks is smart too. The battery pocket is securely located on the top of the socks without moving with you. The elastic band ensures they stay on no matter how active you decide to be on any particular day.

The pair comes with two 3.7V Li-ion batteries and a charger, which eliminates the need to make any separate purchases. Hit that ‘buy now’ button and enjoy cozy winter days right when your package gets delivered to your door.

Thermo Gear wool heated socks are the perfect combination of quality, reliability, and comfort. Made from the highest quality wool and a splash of acrylic, they vouch to keep your feet warm in cold weather.

The heat-trapping wool is the star of the show (=socks). It’s soft yet sturdy which means you’ll stay warm no matter how suddenly the temperature drops well below 30°F.

The rechargeable lithium-polymer battery lasts much longer than the majority of heated socks on this list. This fact alone makes the socks suitable for every type of outdoor activity including snow shoveling, hiking, camping, and motorbike riding.

An important note from the manufacturer: “It is important to maintain at least 25% of your battery power when not in use. Failure to do this will result in performance problems and reduced battery life.”

BUYING GUIDE

When it gets colder both inside and outside, you start brainstorming the ways you can keep yourself warm. Here’s where heating socks come into mind. They’re an upgrade from your regular socks that are toasty at best and just snug at worst.

But how do you choose the right pair for yourself? What feature should you be looking into when facing the dilemma of whether to go for the pair that is warmer or the one that has a better battery life?

To get an answer to these and other questions you might have, continue reading this buying guide.

Material

Just like with any piece of clothing, the type of material your heated socks are made from should be your first point of reference. And while the majority of socks contain a couple of different material kinds, you can get a good idea of how warm, durable and comfortable they will be by paying attention to their main ‘ingredient’.

It won’t come as a shock to you when we say that wool heated socks are the warmest. This animal fiber provides natural insulation that is hard to find in cotton or polyester socks.

Speaking about cotton and polyester – these are the most commonly used fabrics for heated socks. They are often used together in different proportions to ensure optimum performance. With cotton being a highly absorbent material and polyester having a quick-drying attribute to it, you can rest assured this duo will feel comfortable on your feet all day long.

P.S. Designed to keep your feet warm no matter where you go, cotton- and polyester-made heated socks are the go-to of many fishermen, hikers, and kayakers.

Batteries

Even though heated socks aren’t a new phenomenon, they’ve gained popularity only recently as a result of the integration of good-quality batteries that make them last a long time. Those fond of camping and paddling long hours will benefit from a pair or two without a single hint of doubt.

When it comes to the power of the batteries, you’ll often find socks with numbers hitting anywhere between 220 mAh and 4000 mAh. The rule of thumb is that the bigger this number is, the higher is the chance of the socks keeping your feet warm for longer. That is, if you’re planning on spending 5+ hours catching fish or playing football out in the winter, it’s recommended to invest in a pair with a higher power (which will last you up to 14 hours).

Note that there are heated socks with disposable batteries and those you can recharge again and again. The former ones are, for obvious reasons, cheaper than the latter, and don’t require additional investment from you. Their lifespan, however, is just as short.

Warmth

Heated socks are known to have 3 adjustable warmth levels that offer different heat temperatures. You can find out which ones are responsible for what warmth level by looking at the color-coded indicators. Depending on how warm you want your feet to be, you can change the temperature and feel your toastiest in the socks of the perfect warmth.

Keep in mind that high warmth levels will drain the battery power faster, and are thus typically best for 3-4 hours of use. If you put your heated socks on a low warmth level, however, you can expect them to keep working for up to 6 hours.

Control

Some types of heated socks allow you to regulate the temperature – this is a nice bonus to have if you’re someone who lives in a place where the weather tends to change all the time. It can be done via a regulator – Bluetooth (remote) control (ex. Mobile Warming Tri-Blend Heated Socks) or built-in buttons – that comes with the pair. Some (read=more hi-tech) heated socks like Lenz Toe Cap Heated Socks allow you to use your smartphone to regulate the heat output too.

Having control over the heat produced by your socks is convenient. But it’s by no means a must. You can still reap the benefits of heated socks without owning a remote control that would change their temperature from time to time.

Fit

Even the most expensive heated socks made from high-quality wool and equipped with several levels of warmth can disappoint you. That’s because the above features don’t matter if the fit of your heated socks isn’t optimal.

Consider purchasing a pair of socks that has either an elastane or a spandex band for that snug but not tight fit. It will also prevent the heat from escaping the socks and result in comfortable wear regardless of the number of hours you wear them.

The other feature to look for when making sure the fit is right is heels and toes markings. When your heels and toes fit as per these markings, the overall comfort levels will increase as well.

DIVEIN Tip: It helps to have your heated socks hit right above your calves and below your knees for trapping the heat for longer or have them feature compression characteristics.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the best heated socks?

When deciding what heated socks to purchase, you want to make sure they’re up to the highest industry standards. This means they’re lightweight, durable, and, most importantly, warmer than regular socks.

The following heated socks meet the above requirements and are, as per our humble opinion, the best ones on the market:

  • XBUTY Store Rechargeable Heated Socks
  • SNOW DEER Electric Battery Heated Socks
  • Autocastle Rechargeable Heated Socks

How do heated socks work?

There’s nothing out-of-the-ordinary about heated socks – they are powered by the built-in batteries that transfer the heat right to your feet. The wiring evenly spread throughout the socks has electrons running through it that are responsible for making and keeping your feet warm.

Heated socks may come with a remote control or they can be operated via your smartphone. In either case, you are able to regulate the temperature you want your socks to have.

Can you wash heated socks?

Unlike regular socks, heated socks can’t be washed in the washing machine. This is due to the wiring built into them and their electronic nature. That said, you can wash your heated socks by hand.

We recommend you use mild detergent or soap when scrubbing your heated socks under lukewarm water. And since you’ll most likely be wearing your heated socks over your regular socks, you won’t need to wash them too often.

What are the thinnest warmest socks?

Just like you want your yoga socks to be thin, your heated socks should also be as lightweight and breathable as possible. Here’s where our heated socks guide comes in handy.

If you’re not looking forward to reading the entire guide to find the thinnest warmest socks out there, check out our top picks:

  • SNOW DEER Electric Battery Heated Socks
  • Begleri Winter Heated Socks

Are heated socks dangerous?

We can see how you might think heated socks are dangerous. But this isn’t the case. The heating elements embedded into them intertwine with non-tech layers and never end up actually coming in direct contact with your feet. The automatic shut-off that turns on when socks become overheated or start malfunctioning helps to prevent potentially dangerous situations too.

There’s also an extremely low chance of heated socks catching on fire. As long as the built-in battery is working well – it isn’t damaged/doesn’t stink – you have no reasons to worry about it putting you in danger.

If you already have a heated sock or you just bought one, leave a comment in the comment section below and share your experience with it.

Hi David,

The Snow Deer has top and bottom on toes, but not further down the foot.

I bought a pair recently but they only heat the sole of the foot, and they don’t warm the toes or the top of the foot. Are there any socks that cover the entire foot?
