Gregory’s Focal 58 and Facet 55 have the clean lines and sleek build of an ocean predator. Their lightweight is reflected in the comparative simplicity of their build, and the full floating mesh back panel. The Focal and Facet might not be the most overwrought and feature-rich backpacks out there, but they’re a very competitive option when it comes to the best in class.

Features
The best part about these bags is their ability to balance simplicity with crucial comfort based amenities. Long story short, Gregory opted to put a full suspension mesh back panel in these bags, and not much else. Far from a bad thing, the Focal 58 and Facet 55 keep the best parts about backpacks in this category without any of the unnecessary bells and whistles. Because their support system is so built out, you can carry a decent amount of weight without having to compensate with a heavier backpack.
Beyond what they left out, the main compartment is spacious and easy to access, with a simple drawstring closure and a protective top lid that can be secured with a single buckle. The lid also has a zippered pocket for storing small items like a map or headlamp. The backpacks also have a few external pockets, including hip belt pockets big enough for a phone and a stretchy mesh pocket on the outside of the pack.
