Best Value for Money
GoPro HERO9 Black

While the expression “out with the old, in with the new” may hold water in most cases, there are a number of reasons why the GoPro HERO9 Black is still a viable choice in 2022. The most obvious one is this: it’s basically the HERO10 minus the GP2 processor. As such, it’s a great option for those who want a feature-packed GoPro but aren’t necessarily looking for the highest frame rates (which, unless you’re a professional sports videographer, is overkill in most cases).

The HERO9 features better 4K and 5K video than the HERO8, as well as improved battery life. While it still uses the GP1 processor, its HyperSmooth stabilization is still top-notch (inferior only to the HERO10’s and HERO11’s). It’s also just as waterproof as the HERO10, making it ideal for a wide variety of watersports and other outdoor activities. Moreover, the 1.4-inch, front-facing color display makes it a great vlogging camera.

With its larger battery, the HERO9 performs better than its predecessors in low temperatures

  • check-markWith its GP1 processor, it's not as responsive as the HERO10 Black

GoPro HERO9 Black

For video editing, you can access GoPro’s Quik app, which includes features like automated video creation and trimming. If you want access to more advanced editing tools and more royalty-free music along with other features, you can pay for a GoPro subscription. The app also features an easy to use suite if you want to edit your videos manually.

While it’s not necessarily cheap, the HERO9 offers incredible value for money. If you already have a GoPro subscription, the HERO9 retails at around $300, $50 cheaper than the HERO10, and $100 cheaper than the HERO11. It gets quite a lot of flak for its weight (it’s heavier than most action cameras), but we feel like this is a small price to pay for how well the HERO9 performs.
