Workable Budget Coat

See all pictures

A packable rain jacket doesn’t have to dig holes in your pockets. The budget friendly Avoogue Women’s Raincoat continues to sell well because of its compactness and price.

Luckily, it does a pretty good job–for the most part–at what it’s supposed to as well

It’s a pretty straightforward piece of raingear that can be best described as straight fitting (no bagginess) on your way of movement. But of course, there are bargains like most affordable products.

It’s not a totally waterproof workhorse, it should be noted

It is not for you if you’re looking for a waterproof jacket for technical and harsh conditions. This packable rain jacket from Avoogue is ideal for short exposures to light/moderate rain only.

It’s also a solution for suddenly getting caught in the rain on your daily commute.

Stay Dry without Bankbreaking

Stay dry even when there’s a downpour with this practical packable rain jacket from Avoogue. Enjoy a comfy and snug fit while walking under drizzles to work with the adjustable hood and hem onboard.

You can have it in a solid color or two-tone design as well. No bagginess and not too much humidity gathers. The material resists water relatively well, and it breathes decently too.

Don’t expect the breathability to be on par with the likes of an Arcteryx Zeta or even Mormot’s Minimalist.

But the lightweight 2-layer construction makes Avoogue Women’s Raincoat a reasonable choice for light-to-moderately rainy summer days.

At an affordable price, it seems to serve its purpose well.

Construction and Design

Avoogue Women’s Raincoat is a polyester jacket, and it comes in various colors such as Black, Army Green, Beige, Dark Green, Rose Red, Grey/Black, Light Blue/Grey, Navy Blue, Z-camo Army Green, Z-camo Gray, Z-camo Blue, White and more.

You can choose your Avoogue waterproof jacket from lots of colorways.

Technically, polyester is one of the most reliable and affordable rainwear materials. Whether you’re getting waterproof pants, a waterproof backpack, or waterproof socks, there’s undoubtedly a polyester one. Compared to nylon, this fabric is naturally more breathable and water-resistant. It’s also wrinkle-resistant, so permanent creases are at bay even if you fold them.

The fabric itself is okay-ish, but the stitching is not so durable. The seams will probably cause the problem over the long run. Its zipper is also cheap. This 2-layer Avoogue packable rain jacket doesn’t have that premium feel and quality. But for its price, you need to manage your expectations. Besides, how you use this rain gear will also dictate its lifespan. If you need a true workhorse, be willing to invest more.

Waterproofness and Breathability

What’s the point of a waterproof jacket that gets you soaking wet, right? Without beating around the bush, this packable rain jacket can only endure light to moderate rains without prolonged exposure. The Durable Water-Resistant finish on the surface of the fabric allows water to bead off and roll away. You might need to re-coat it from time to time, but as for its initial testing, Avoogue keeps you dry whether you’re on your way to work or a meeting at the café.

It is not for technical uses or harsh torrential rains. Avoogue Women’s Raincoat is an affordable option for quick fixes like walking from your car to the office or dropping the kids to school. If you want a reliable and heavy-duty waterproof jacket, you’ll need to invest at least twice the price. And if you decide to do so, some of the best workhorses we’ve come across are GORE-TEX  protected like the Marmot Minimalist, Outdoor Research Foray, and Arc’teryx Zeta SL.

The 2-layer construction of this Avoogue packable rain jacket makes it a good model for rainy summer days. The thickness is just enough to allow airflow inside, providing nice breathability. But it can be tricky sometimes since clamminess is a common trouble for 2-layer raingear. There’s no additional layer (typically mesh) to assist moisture wicking.

Features

Let’s look at all the features Avoogue Women’s Raincoat has for you. These small details separate waterproof jackets from one another and help you identify whether it’s a suitable option for you.

The hood of Avoogue Women’s Raincoat has a drawstring for adjustment. Keep your hair dry and tie them together for a snug fit. It’s not the most convenient, but it still gets the job done. Tying the ends of the string is a bit time-consuming to calibrate on the fly. Rain jackets with toggles are the most effective in quickly adjusting the hood. We enjoyed this swiftness while testing out Marmot Minimalist, Outdoor Research Foray, and Patagonia Stretch.

Adjusting the hood of Avoogue can be time-consuming.

Avoogue got a fixed hood. You can’t unsnap to detach it like the kids’ Helly Hansen JR Seven J or roll it away to hide like the Mountain Warehouse Pakka. It’s more of casual use, the car-to-building waterproof jacket type. Not helmet-compatible either. If you need your rain gear for climbing, we recommend Patagonia Stretch and Black Diamond StormLine.

The side pockets of this packable rain jacket from Avoogue have a flap over their top access. They’re not the traditional hand pockets with side zipped access like in Arc’teryx Zeta SL and REI Co-op Drypoint GTX. Access to your valuables is not as quick, but at least you have the peace that no water is seeping in.

The hand pockets have a flap.

Now, not all waterproof jackets have a hem adjustment cord. See Marmot Minimalist, Marmot PreCip, and Apex Flex GTX 3.0. Avoogue Women’s Raincoat has a string hem cord, just like its hood. And still. Unlike Arcadia II, there’s no hem toggle to make it easier to use.

The hem adjustment is not the easiest to use, but still better than none.

This Avoogue packable rain jacket is not a bad choice for casual use. But for active days when the skies are gray, ventilation would be necessary. If you’re running or performing any aerobic activity, dumping out the heat once the rain has stopped as quickly as possible is one of the greatest reliefs. You’ll enjoy the additional zippered vents that waterproof jackets like OR Foray (sides) and Black Diamond StormLine (pits) so you don’t lose the windbreaker purpose of your jacket. Also, Avoogue has elastic cuffs.

Overall, as rain gear for typical mundane use, the features packed in Avoogue Women’s Raincoat are enough to keep up with your activities. Nothing special. But the basics are aboard this packable rain jacket to get your day going even when there’s a downpour.

Fit and Comfort

This women’s packable rain jacket is slim fitting. Avoogue’s athletic cut gives you a flattering look that accentuates the curves. You won’t walk around the city in super baggy rain gear. Also, it’s true to size. Just refer to their chart to get the correct measurements.

It’s the ideal option for rainy summer days with a single base layer. If you’ll be out in the cold, that’s when you need to size up. Or, you might as well opt for a waterproof jacket with a regular fit that can accommodate layering like Patagonia Stretch.

Avoogue Womens Fit And Comfort
No unnecessary bagginess.

We didn’t feel any movement restrictions while using Avoogue Women’s Raincoat. There’s no stiffness on regular arm movements. But with the poor construction, any aggressiveness, i.e., you’re working in the field while it’s raining, may put too much strain on the seams and rip it open. If you want a comfortable workhorse, look at Marmot PreCip and its Angel-Wing cut to ensure your mobility isn’t compromised.

Weight and Packability

This packable rain jacket from Avoogue is super lightweight at 9.59 ounces. That’s lighter than alternative women’s rain gear like the Columbia Arcadia II at 10.86 ounces. These waterproof jackets within reach for just-in-case situations don’t add weight to your load. It’s almost like carrying air, but you can count that you’ll stay dry when the downpour starts falling. But if you’re a passionate light packer concerned with its ounce-per-ounce basis, the lightest model we reviewed was Marmot PreCip at 7.2 ounces, and the heaviest is TNF Apex Flex GTX 3.0 at over 20 ounces.

An Avoogue Women’s Raincoat also comes with its stowaway pouch. You can quickly snatch your rain gear when needed and fold it away when not in use. As we experienced with Jack Wolfskin JWP and Columbia Watertight II, some waterproof jackets collapse into its pocket.

But as for this Avoogue product, we appreciate the balanced weight and that it’s a packable rain jacket.

Ease of Care

Like most waterproof gear, you can simply as much water away and hang this packable rain jacket from Avoogue after use to dry. Don’t ever fold it away when it’s wet/damp. Set aside time to handwash if there’s a heavy formation of stain, dirt, or body oils.

Yes, you need to wash it manually. It’s not safe to go inside the machine, given its construction. Plus, any product you manually clean stays away from the possible damage from harsh machine cycles.

But if you don’t have the time and patience, waterproof jackets like Patagonia Torrentshell and Arc’teryx Zeta SL will cut the hassle.

Conclusion

Avoogue’s Women’s Raincoat is an affordable option that provides reasonable performance. It’s a packable rain jacket with a pouch you can carry anywhere without any additional weight and space in your bag. Keep it within reach for those unpredictable summer rains and drizzles.

For roughly $30, you can stay dry when the gray skies start pouring down, whether you’re on your way to work or running daily errands. This Avoogue packable rain jacket is a simple rain gear with all the basics– adjustable hood and hem, elasticized cuffs for snugged fit. Plus, its athletic cut gives a flattering look.

Though the overall construction is not that durable, the fabric still keeps out water from ruining your day.

Buy this waterproof jacket if:

  • You’re tight on budget
  • You only need a waterproof jacket for a handful of uses
  • Want a raingear with a flattering cut
  • For in-between purposes (i.e., parking to building, bus to school)

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Avoogue Women’s Raincoat

What does a packable rain jacket mean?

A packable rain jacket is waterproof gear that you can stow away in a compact size. It can be a small pouch or collapses into one of its pockets. This way, you can bring your rainwear without additional space. Plus, it also protects your rainwear.

Should I size up with A Vogue Women’s Raincoat?

This packable rain jacket from Avoogue is true to size. You can stick to your usual size or refer to their chart for actual measurements. Now, if layering is a must, or if you have a broad shoulder or chest, you might need to size up. But for the typical base layer underneath, there’s no need.

Is Avoogue Women’s Raincoat actually waterproof?

No. Water-resistant, yes.

Avoogue’s Women’s Raincoat is a popular Amazon product that actually does a decent job. It can keep you dry under light to moderate showers with a short exposure time. But for technical trips like hiking for hours under heavy downpours, no. This packable rain jacket is not the most reliable for intensive use. But it can withstand casual walks and activities of urban life.
