Tulum

Tulum is a Pre-Columbian Mayan walled city on the Caribbean coast. Its ruins lie atop the 12 m. cliffs of Yucatan’s east coast in what is today a Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Tulum was one of the last cities founded by the Mayan civilization and its peak culminated between 13th and 15th century. Surprisingly it survived for 70 more years after Spanish invasion of Mexico. It is believed the residents eventually succumbed to the dieses brought by conquistadors. Nevertheless, Tulum is one the best preserved Mayan cities and extremely popular tourist destination.

Tulum is a destination for total relaxation. Crystal clear blue sea, white sandy beaches, and palm trees hiding charming little cocktail bars. Funny thing about Tulum and many other Mexican beach bars, you won’t always find chairs but rather swings to sit on.

There city of Tulum is located a few kilometers from the beach and it offers a wide variety of hotels, luxury villas and apartments. Although the city can meet all the tourist requirements, staying near the beach still holds a primate. Accommodation prices near the beach range from affordable to luxury.

The Beaches of Tulum are one of the most beautiful in Mexico and the world. They are located in the heart of the Mayan Riviera, and all the tour guide books in Mexico have at least one picture from Mayan ruins on the beaches of Tulum. These ruins might not be as famous as Chitzen Itza or Palanque but they have an additional value which is cultural tourism on the beach.

In Tulum’s vicinity there are two mayor attractions: Eco-tourist park XEL-Ha and a biosphere reserve Sian Ka`an.

Xel-Ha Park prides itself with beautiful beaches and its history dates way before the arrival of the first Europeans. This cove north of Tulum is a river delta flowing in the Caribbean Sea, its biodiversity is so unique, it creates a stunning harmony of natural beauty. Sian Ka`an biosphere reserve is an area of unspoiled nature, part of the Caribbean coast, where you can feel emerging with the nature. Sian Ka`an is the second largest coral reef in the world, and the solitary white sandy beaches, mangrove forests, and jungle in the back will leave anyone breathless. This also an important animal habitat, crocodiles, dolphins, bats, pumas, tapirs and over 300 hundred bird species.

Cozumel

Across the famous Playa Del Carmen is and island Cozumel, a destination well known for tourists in Mexico and worldwide. The island has a fine white sand beach with a coral reef in its vicinity and it can be reached by swimming. Cozumel is well known among divers and sea lovers. Stunning underwater floura and fauna, variety of marine life is ot to be missed if visiting this island.

 

Chiapas

This subtropical paradise consists of jungle. It is one of the few remaining places where Mayan riches still exist unexplored in depts of the jungle. Apart from archeological sites, tourists in Chiapas are met with beautiful nature and indigenous Indian tribe Chiapas whose culture and tradition can be seen fist handed.

Greatest attractions in Chiapas are ancient Mayan cities:

Palenque - today a nature park located in the vicinity of a modern city with the same name, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Yaxchilan - a classic Maya urban complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Besides Maya ruins there are also some nature reserves, Sumidero Canyon - a narrow canyon following the river Grijalva and Lagunas de Montebello - an area full of lakes and lush nature.

 

Cabo San Lucas

This top destination on Mexico’s Pacific coast, is located on the very tip of Baya California Sul. Many marine mammals have found refuge in its waters like the grey whale that travels here each year from Alaska. Dolphins, seals and sea lions also visit this area, which makes Cabo San Lucas an ideal watching ground for these marine mammals. Once a fishing village, today a modern tourist destination, it has maintained its charm and natural beauty. This small cove is surrounded by clear seas so black corals and underwater sandbars can be seen. Although more and more popular among tourists, its beaches are not overcrowded and you can still find a solitary beach all to yourself.

 

Greatest natural attraction here is the famous natural ark Cabo San Lucas, carved in the rock by sea waves and many seals and sea lions chill on the beaches around.

 

 

Oaxaca

Unavoidable destination if visiting Mexico. It is located in its southern coast and has a place in UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical and colonial architecture. Region offers many beaches to chill on, jungle walks, caving, rock climbing, hiking or observing rich flora and fauna.

 

Main tourist attractions are colonial architecture of the Oaxaca city, natural beauties of Cuajimoloyas Benito Juarez on northern highlands, local alcohol - Mazcali and Tequila served with maggots.

 

 

Chichen Itza

Mexico’s most famous archeological site. It is high on UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best preserved example of Maya civilization. Imposing pyramid dominates this 6,2 sq.km site. Due to the size of the site it takes a whole day to explore it. Unfortunately for security reasons it is no longer possible to climb the pyramids but just seeing it, is impressive enough. Warrior’s temple and Plaza of Thousand Columns remind of the might and glory of ancient civilisation that once thrived here.

Cancun

Probably the most popular Mexican destination in the Yucatan for tourists from all over the world. Beautiful beaches, tropical climate and abundance of night life dominate here. Isla Mujeres

Close to Cancun, there is a small island called Isla Mujeres which can be easily reached by boat. This island is a tropical paradise, where top animation is diving and sunbathing on beautiful beaches. In fact, there are no many other activities to do here besides that. Beaches are covered with beautiful white sand and the surrounding sea is crystal clear and rich with marine life.

The name of the island comes from ancient Indian times when the whole area was dedicated to the goddess of the moon, love and fertility Ixchel, which was worshipped in a manner that statues of beautiful maids were placed on the island and when first Europeans arrived they called the island Isla Mujeres - the island of women.

 

 

Teotihuacan

In local language, it means a place where gods live. This alone is enough to understand why this place is a major archeological site of Maya civilization with two greatest pyramids in Mexico - Pyramid of the Sun and Pyramid of the Moon. The pyramids in Teotichuacan are located in the Avenue of the Dead - the main street. Teotichuacan is located just a few kilometers from Mexico’s capital.

 

 

Cola de Caballo

This magnificent waterfalls are located in the Nuevo Leon state, close to the city of Monterrey and their stunning beauty lures lots of tourists each year. In hillside of northern Mexico lots of interesting touristy things can be found. Impressive waterfall Cola de Caballo is located about 40 kilometers from Monterrey city in Villa de Santiago. This destination is great eco-tourism center and the waterfall is one of the most beautiful in all of Mexico. In waterfalls vicinity a gazebo and a barbeque can be rented.
