Diving on the Horizon III in the Maldives
Description
Among the best dive safari boats in the Maldives, the 36 meters/118 feet Horizon III, recently renovated in 2015 accommodates 22 persons in 11 exquisite cabins. Designed with comfort and luxury in mind, the Horizon III is light and clean with wooden flooring.
The common areas of this charming liveaboard offer guests a lot to do while not diving. The indoor lounge comes complete with a bar and an entertainment space with several board games to play, and there is also a comfortable dining area where all meals are served.
The living area is complemented with the restaurant, fully provisioned with drinks, a spa and sun deck along with a jacuzzi.
Boat features
Of the 11 cabins in the Horizon III liveaboard, there are 8 Standard en-suite double cabins in the lower deck and 2 De Luxe en-suite double cabins in the upper deck. There is 1 Standard en-suite double cabin on the main deck. The cabins on the upper and main deck have large windows. Each of the liveaboard’s cabins has individually controlled air conditioning, a private bathroom with shower and bathtub. Also, there is enough storage space, a wardrobe, shelving, a mirror, and a small table. All beds have duvets, bed covers, and bed linen. Beach towels, shower towels are regularly/daily changed.
The boat also has a saloon with settees, library, and TV. Each guest has their own shelf for personal items and charging points for torches and cameras etc.
With five different sun decks, guests can enjoy the sunshine or recline in the sun loungers in the shaded areas. The meals served by the boat’s dedicated crew are a mix of intercontinental and local menus and are served buffet style three times a day. Tea, coffee, hot and cold water are free of charge and available throughout the day.
The Horizon III is accompanied by a diving Dhoni which ensures that divers get to the various dive spots fast and in comfort with all the required equipment. It is also complete with a nitrox station and camera rinse tanks.
To ensure the safety of the guests, the Horizon III is equipped with a diving tracking device, oxygen tanks, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and life rafts. The dive crew and the dive dhoni crew are trained in giving first aid and diving accident management. The dive dhoni crew are also certified PADI advanced divers.
Best time to go
While diving is done 12 months a year, the best time to go diving aboard the Horizon III is between December and May.
Logistics
Guests are picked from their hotels or from the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport upon arrival by the dive instructor and are returned upon the trip’s completion. The boat’s trip starts from Male and the check-in time on the day of departure is 8:00 am.
Itinerary
The Horizon III itineraries vary and range from 7 days with 16 dives to 14 days with 37 dives. Guests are checked into the boat after being picked from different destinations on the first day. No diving is done on arrival (first) day. There are around three dives per day. There is no diving on the departure day.
The dive locations include Lanka manta, Bathalakanthila, Fesdu thila, Ari atoll, Maalhos thila, Moofushi Raidhiga thila, Rangali madivaru, Maamingli beyru, Dhidhoo beyru, Kudarah thila, Dhigaluvashee, Miyaru kandu, Kandooma thila, Kuda giri wreck, amongst others.
