Description and details
Diving on the Carpe Vita in the Maldives
The 38 meter/124 feet MV Carpe Vita goes on diving trips to Kudarah, Thila, Maaya Thila, Manta Point, Fish Head, and Machafusi wreck amongst others. The exteriors and interiors of this unique liveaboard were designed and built by the Dutch partner Agnes Van Linden and her father Fop Van Linden in Innamadho shipyard in Raa Atoll during 2010.
The first noticeable feature of the MV Carpe Vita is the sheer amount of space. The boat caters for a maximum of 20 guests in three different cabin types.
The cabin types are standard, superior and suite. Six standard cabins are located on the cabin deck below the main deck. All cabins have one queen size bed and a super single bed, desk/chair, dresser, individually controlled air-conditioning, safety deposit boxes, flat screen TV, DVD and music players along with private bathrooms.
The two spacious suites have king size beds which can be separated into two super single beds.
The superior cabins, located on the main deck, have king size beds which can be separated into two super single beds and desk/chair/dresser, hanging closet, large windows, ensuite bathroom, and shower cubicle.
The saloon is enormous with a snack area and three separate tables and fitted cushioned seating and windows running around the full length of the room which keeps it light and airy. The sun deck at the top of the boat also has a jacuzzi and a pleasant shade over more seating area and sunbeds to accommodate around ten people at any one time.
Eating is done mostly on the open-air upper deck at the back of the boat, where meals are served buffet style. The meals involve a cold breakfast served by 6:00 am and a proper breakfast followed after the morning dive. Lunch is served around noon and dinner between 6:30-7: 00 pm after the afternoon dives. Two glasses of beer or wine are served to the boat’s passengers during the evening meal.
Dives are carried out from the boat’s tender. The spacious dive deck has fresh water showers and a toilet. Nitrox is available. To ensure safety, the MV Carpe Vita is fitted with smoke detectors and emergency alarms. It is also equipped with life jackets, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.
Best time to go
While diving can be done all year long in the Maldives, the best time to visit the diving destinations aboard the MV Carpe Vita is between December and the ending of May.
The MV Carpe Vita runs 7-, 10- and 14-night cruises to Kudarah, Thila, Maaya Thila, Manta Point, Fish Head, and Machafusi wreck amongst others. Guests are picked from the airport or their hotel rooms/guesthouses on the departure date and transferred to the boat. They are then briefed about the safety features by the dive guides before they are shown and checked into their cabins.
A total of 17 dives are done per week, which includes one-night dive depending on weather conditions. There are no dives on the arrival date. Three-four dives are scheduled each day with the first briefing done at around 6:30 am. When there’s no suitable night dive spot there will be a late afternoon dive at around 16:30. There are two dives on the day before departure. No diving is done on the departure date. All dives are supervised by a dive guide.
