Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh is a very well known holiday destination for tourists however, what lies beneath the waves is just phenomenal. Sharm has warm waters throughout most of the year and also has great conditions. With abundant marine life and great wrecks to explore. Some of the top dive sites found in Sharm include The SS Thistlegorm, Ras Mohammad National Park and the Straits of Trian.

 

Hurghada

Hurghada itself has over 40 liveaboard trips available to divers. There is so much to see and not enough time to do it. Hurghada is the second main diving area in Egypt after Sharm El Sheikh. Most of the liveaboards that leave Hurghada travel to the south Red Sea area. Top dive sites around this area include Brothers and Elphinstone. However, depending on the liveaboard that you choose, you may get the chance to dive the SS Thistlegorm, which is classed as one of the best wreck dives in the world, and should not be missed if you are making the trip to Egypt.

Information to know about liveaboard diving in Egypt

  • Traveling to the areas of Egypt listed below are safe for tourists, however, there are some places that certain governments advise you not to travel to.
  • The official language of Egypt is Arabic, however, English and French are spoken all over the country.
  • Diving in the Red Sea falls nothing short of epic, with stunning marine life, beautiful thriving corals, not to mention the sheer variety of sharks.
  • Currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound, which is roughly $1 to 18 Egyptian Pounds.
  • The weather in Egypt is amazing pretty much all year round. Temperature varies from 20C/68F in the winter months to 45C/113F in the summer months.
  • Best time to dive is in the summer months as water is lovely and warm at around 28C/82F. Water temperature is not cold in the winter, it is roughly 21C/70F.
  • Visibility is between 30m to 50m all year round.
  • Getting there is simple. Most large airlines and even budget airlines will fly to the large cities including Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. If you arrange to travel to Egypt using a travel agency, then they will usually arrange a transfer directly to your hotel. However, there are many taxis based outside the airport that will take you to where ever you would like to go.
