The Rad Sportz Kayak Cart is similar to the Suspenz Heavy Duty Airless Cart, but it’s half the price. The reason for the price difference is the construction and materials. The frame is made from powder-coated aluminum but is lighter than the robust frame on the Suspenz. The hull pads are also made from foam and not rubber, and the tires are a little stiffer and made with polyurethane.
The advantage of a lighter frame means the cart is easier to transport, especially if you have to strap it to the deck of your kayak. The disadvantage is its weight capacity, which is 140 lbs. compared to the 200 lbs. of the Suspenz cart. This is a factor if you’re transporting a fully-loaded single or tandem kayak over a long distance, but for most applications and boat sizes, its weight capacity should be sufficient.
Our Overall Review
We have thoroughly tested - and read reviews from other experts and users. In summary, this is what we think:
Things we like:
-
Affordable
-
Light-weight compared to other aluminium frames
-
Double kickstand enables easy loading
-
Puncture-resistant tires
Things we don't like:
-
Large frame will not fit in most kayak hatches
-
Foam hull pads deteriorate over time
The puncture-resistant polyurethane tires have a quick release system using pins that enable you to assemble and disassemble the cart with ease and provide a smooth roll across most terrain including hard pavement and soft beaches.
The Rad Sportz Kayak Cart also has a double kickstand that holds the cart in place when loading your kayak. The stand naturally angles off the ground once your kayak is laid on top for easy rolling to your chosen destination.
The foam hull pads won’t last as long as the rubber version on the Suspenz cart, but careful cleaning from salt water and debris, and storage away from UV light will certainly prolong their lifespan.
For anyone looking for a traditional aluminum kayak cart who doesn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars, the Rad Spotz Kayak Cart is for you.
