Bento boxes have been discovered outside of Japan and everyone has fallen in love with their compact packability. With nice compartments and an easy open lid, the Bentgo Kids Lunch Box might be the answer to your lunch packing prayers.
It comes in creative prints and has 5 compartments to fill with a healthy variety of treats. You also save some time maintaining it since it’s dishwasher-safe. The Bentgo Kids Luch Box is a durable model specially made for children. It’s reinforced with rubber edges to take a beating.
There are some downsides worth considering. For one, we noticed that although the silicone seal on the shell itself is totally leakproof, the ones for the dividers don’t provide the same functionality.
The Bentgo Kids Lunch Box won’t satisfy everyone. But for many, it’ll be hard to pass on its high-quality construction and cute design.

A tough bento box for your active toddler
Amazon’s best-selling kids’ bento lunch box is from Bentgo. It is made using food-grade polypropylene with high-quality rubber-coated edges- no more worrying about dropping this food container.
There are five compartments: a 1 cup size section on the left, 2 half cup size compartments – one on the right and another in back, a quarter cup nook in the front, and a two tablespoons size compartment for sauce in the center. To open just undo the clasps in front and lift the hinged lid.
The small dividers of the Bentgo Kids Bento Box help provide your child a healthy, balanced meal. Unfortunately, this is where this bento box could use some improvement. The compartments are too small for sandwiches of any size unless they are cut into specific shapes to fit.
It’s not an insulated bento box, which means no cold or heat retention. But the Bentgo kids lunch box tray is okay to go inside a microwave if you want to reheat something. However, this also causes some trouble as the compartments are designed to hold different kinds of food and you might not want to reheat everything. Conveniently though, after use, you can throw the tray onto your dishwasher’s top rack.
Yes, the lid is leakproof, but the dividers are not. Applesauce and yogurt have been shown to leak into other compartments and sog up your sandwich. If your Bentgo Bento Box gets damaged, you do have their 2-year warranty, though it is worth registering your product and keeping your receipt to ensure you can get your refund.
Bentgo has an ongoing partnership with Feed the Children so your purchase extends help to those in need.
Construction and Design
The Bentgo Kids Lunch Box comes with designs that children will love. The selection ranges from construction trucks, unicorns, space rockets, and more.
Built using BPA-free PP, TPE, and ABS, the Bentgo is a well-made kid’s bento box that can endure any boisterous child. Pack yummy snacks for them without compromising their health and trust that this lunch box’s durability can keep up with your little one’s energy. Rubber edges give it additional protection amping up its ability to stay crack-free when dropped.
Secured by a couple of latches, there are five compartments inside the Bentgo Kids Lunch Box. One thing that bugged us was how much space was wasted inside, especially in the middle section. It cuts down the amount of food you can pack.
You’ll also notice a silicone seal on the lid to secure each compartment. The tray itself is also removable. If yours gets damaged, you can use the 2-year warranty coverage of your purchase.
Insulation
The plastic body isn’t insulated so it won’t keep your packed snacks cold/hot throughout the day. However, the vacuum seal does help keep fruits fresh for a little while.
If you’re searching for a well-insulated option, containers with double wall construction, like the DaCool and Thermos King, would be better options. On the downside, you can’t add a variety of foods since they’re just basic single-compartment thermos containers. They also don’t look as appealing to children. But they both work well with temp retention for packing soup or pasta dishes.
Capacity
The Bentgo Kids Lunch Box can only carry roughly 2.5 cups of food. That’s enough for toddlers and picky eaters to enjoy a variety of choices in tiny servings. But if you’re trying to give your youngster a proper meal, you’ll have trouble fitting in even a sandwich. It’ll require you to cut it into small pieces.
You can easily add some nuggets and sauce, diced fruits, and mini choco chips. It’s an ideal option for snacks that come in bite sizes. The entire serving inside this Bentgo won’t be sufficient enough to satisfy some kids.
Throwing in some sauce to add flavor to all the dry food may be risky as we found the compartments tend to leak. A cup of pasta with a little sauce shouldn’t leak, but if you want to give anything soupy, you’re out of luck. You may want to opt for the OmieBox Bento Box. It has a thermos for those cold days you want to send your child to school with some tomato soup to keep them warm.
All in all, the Bentgo Kids Lunch Box will appeal to preschoolers who prefer snacking. The compartments are just not big enough for a proper lunch.
Ease of Use
This Bentgo for kids is very easy to open and close. You will notice the vacuum-like pressure once you open this kid’s bento box, but it doesn’t cause too much tension like how the Bentgo Stainless Steel does if you forget to open its pressure valve. The latches are made for tiny hands and don’t require much force to access them. We also appreciate that the lid lays flat. It won’t get in the way while your kiddo enjoys their meal.
It’s also freezer-friendly.
It would’ve been better if this kid’s bento box had a cutlery set like the Bentgo Classic All-in-One and OmieBox. Not a deal breaker, but can you imagine how excited kids will be if their spoon and fork match with the print of their lunch box?!
More likely than not, your child will drop it at some stage. Once it happens, you don’t have to worry about breaking this Bentgo with the rubber-coated edges protecting it. The leakproof shell also means they can toss it inside their small backpack without ruining their notebooks.
Ease of Care
The Bentgo Kids Lunch Box tray is safe to go onto your dishwasher’s top rack. However, the outer shell needs manual washing. Bentgo also recommends sticking to hand washing it to keep it in its optimal condition, especially the waterproof sealing.
On the downside, the rubber seal for the compartments stains easily. If you prepared anything saucy, remember to unpack and clean it immediately as soon as your kid gets home.
Price/Quality Ratio
You can get this Bentgo lunch box for around $30. The creative prints and colorway are enough to hype your children’s snack and lunch times. The servings inside each compartment won’t overwhelm them, and you can pack up to five different snacks simultaneously. No question, its BPA-free, robust construction with rubber-edged reinforcement makes this kid’s bento box a heavy-duty option.
On the other hand, while the outer shell is leakproof, the silicone seal for the dividers doesn’t perform as well. The tray design also wastes a lot of space, cutting servings to smaller than they could be if some of that extra space could be used.
Overall, the Bentgo Kids Lunch Box is a durable kid’s bento box. It’s an excellent option primarily for snackers who enjoy a variety of little options. On the upside, you’re covered by a 2-year warranty and your purchase will help fight hunger when you get this Bentgo.
